Ok guys I have read numerous threads trying to find answers to my questions, but I am still sort of confused and could use some help. I want brake pads that have performance similar to OEM, but without the ridiculous amount of dust, so that is why I am think of getting ceramic pads. What are the best ones that meet this criteria? They will be used on a daily driver and I don't want noise or less bite than OEM. I wanted to get HAWK Performance Ceramic pads, but have heard that they brake fade, and bite less. Is this true? Also, what do you guys think about EBC Ceramic pads, like the Greenstuff or the Redstuff? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm having good luck with my recently purchased Satisfied Pro Ceramics from Tirerack. It comes out to $90+ shipping for the complete set of Pads. Far less dust and noise, with similar bite. It may be a touch less, but for DDing you will not notice the difference.

 

I don't expect you'd see any fade on the street, but HPS are not a good pad for serious track use. Of course, a track pad will be high-dust, high-noise, and high-rotor wear. The right pad will depend on the intended use.

As far as the Perfomace Ceramic pads, Hawk recommends them for luxury cars and SUV's, not sports cars.

you should stick to talking about things you actually know about, they recommend them for ALL domestic and import automobiles, which includes sports cars

Hawk Ceramic, HPS, and HP+ all have the same maximum operating temperature limit; 750 degF. The differences are wear, noise, dust, and initial bite.

I installed a set of Hawk ceramics and new rotors this week on my daily driver. I like them. Very quiet, smooth and a nice bite. I highly recommend them for this application.

For what it's worth, there's actually a group photo of cars - including the RX8 - on the box they arrived in.

From my experience, Hawk HPS pads produce a lot of dust (I've had them on two cars). I have very little experience with ceramics but from what I've heard they have much less dust but don't have the initial bite of other pads. They might stop the car just as well, if not better, just less initial bite.

 

For the street stock pads work fine, just get them. If you race get Carbotech's they rock

 

I'm using Carbotech Bobcat (1521) pads around town and would recommend them. They feel very similar to stock pads, good initial bite, and low dust. I think they dust less than the stock pads as I haven't washed my car in a while and the rims seem pretty clean whenever I do. Only downside is they're pricier than stock pads. I think the fronts are ~$120(bobcats) vs ~$79(stock pads).

 

What's your budget for front and rear?

The HPS tend to need a little more heat to work than the OEM pads. When they're cold initial bite and bite in general is a little less, but once heated up they bite harder than OEM.

 

HPS is an old compound and will dust as much or more than the OE pads

OEM until they wear out, then Hawk Ceramic assuming you don't want the dust and noise that goes with a more serious performance pad

When you say "More dust and noise" What are we talking here.
My rims are black, and theyre already completely brown with dirt/dust in 1 week. and yea thats one autox (if i use street tires and not R), one 100 mile drive and 10 miles of commuting. So how much worse could dust get?

As for noise... other than the occasional random squeal, i dont hear anything from my brakes now... What kind of noise am i going to get and how bad will it be? I drive windows down all the time, music on, and i have a catback, so im used to noises, but what kind of qualifier can you give me other than "more"?

Are you asking me? I don't really have one. I want the best street performance for a daily driver with the least amount of dust. I will probably go with the Hawk Performance Ceramic, since they seem to be the best.

Hey Team what how do the Carbotech Bobcats compare to the Hawk Performance Ceramic in terms of performance and dusting. It seems like the Carbotechs are the way to go since everyone says there is almost no dusting and the performance is good enough for spirited driving and even track days. What's your take on these?

Bobcat is not a track day pad. At least not on the front caliper.
