HELP... Noise & Grit in my Steering

I dont know what is going on, all i know is of late wnen I cold start in the mornings if I rock the steering back and forth there is distinct resistance and u almost feel like you are forcing it to move.

You hear grits and there is a jerk and this goes on for a while after the car is started and you basically feel like something is blocking the free movement of the steering rack.

I had installed sway bars a few weeks back and drove like over a thousand miles since then and no problem and I have not gotten a chance yet to lift up the car and check since the noise but I am just wondering when I do what else I should look out for.

I searched this topic extensively and saw nothing that fit my problem, any ideas?

I'm having this problem and I now get "grit" even after I pull the EPS fuse. Most likely my steering rack will have to be replaced.

I'm having this exact same problem, did anyone ever determine what the issue is and how to fix it? Kinda scary when you're turning a corner and the steering suddenly becomes really stiff :S
