With gas prices I have to drive my motorcycle alot more (I am sure everyone can relate). Anyway I have only been putting about 300-600 miles a month and was wondering if anyone can help me out with the oil change intervals. I am familiar with the mileage intervals, but do I really need to change the oil every three months if I am only putting about 1500 miles on the engine in that period?

yea, every 3 months.

 

I usually just change the oil every 3k miles and it runs fine, but I drive 80 miles 4 days a week so thats about 1440 miles a month (80 x 4 x 4)...

 

every 3000 miles or every 6 months (whichever comes first) should be fine.

Oil????

Are you supposed to change the oil in these things?
Mine burns so much I just add a quart about every couple weeks and call it good.

I change the filter about every 5000, but the oil kinda cycles itself out on its own.

Since i hardly do 3k miles in 3 months on any of my cars, i change the oil at 3 months regardless of miles. SOmetimes even less if i check the oil and its dirty.

Its cheap and easy to do insurance.

 

I think i changed mine twice last year. only put 2500 miles on the car though

 

Rotary engine lovvvveeesss fresh oil........so I change mine at 3K......that's usually about every 4 months for me...:D

 

I let the dealer take care of that . I get a notice every 3 months.

 

I have mine changed at 3 month intervals, even though the car only has 5300 miles on it and it's 15 months old. They're free, so why not?

BUT- the oil change isn't for the car, it's so you can sleep a little easier at night. And only about half the total oil gets changed each time anyway.
