That's not a low ball, that's fair market value. Blue book is instrinsic value but that means nothing when market forces are in play. I understand people love thier cars and do not want to let them go cheap, who would. But its value to you does not neccessarily dictate the same value to someone else. 17,000 for a car that is 4 years old and known for reliability problems is unrealistic.

 

Yes, $17K is high, and yes KBB is not an accurate source for the 8, but $10k or $12k is a low ball offer for this car. "Fair" is subjective, but he should have little problem selling this car for $15-$16k like topgear8 mentioned, if he is a little patient. That would be at a "fair" market value for this trim level and 100k mi. warranty. If you look around you will see, trust me I've been monitoring the rx8 market for years, and even more closely during the past 3-4 mo.
