Whats your question? If you need an auto badly, 2005 is alright, but I would go with the 2006 and up. I believe 2004 and 2005 were 4 ports, 4 speed, much slower. Get a vehicle information kit form the ministry using the vin, run the vin with Mazda Canada to see what work was done if any. Hopeuflly latest recalls were done. I wouldnt expect to pay too much, lower if its a GS, then a GT. But ya, give us more details for more definite answers. O, and nice avatar, look forward to meeting you at a meet if you do decided to buy.

so far....thanks

Ive driven standard all my life and the thought of having auto was something fresh. My question is if this is a good of a deal as the Sales Mgr says....you wont beat it....nowhere.....This is the message he delievered. Ive tried talking him down but he wont budge. He told me its a GT but I think its a GS. Why not automatic....Im just looking or hoping for any insight as far as the appeal of this vehicle......

so far....thanks

what price did he quote, no auto, cause auto engines from those two years, esp 2004 blew up, lots of problems, avoid the headache get a manual, way more fun too.

What is the price they quoted? Is it a GS or GT? If GT with roof and/or Nav or not? Any other extras? All will impact the price.

As above, auto RX8 is not good, 04 and 05 auto is really not good, but if you must...

To be a bit more specific about why these guys are saying no to that car...

The 04/05 automatics use a different variation of the engine which makes less power. On top of that, the automatic transmission can't handle the high RPMs that the engine puts out so instead of redlining around 9000rpm, you get cut off around 7000. On top of that topping, it's a 4 speed transmission so the gears are stretched out.

If this engine produced lots of torque it wouldn't be a problem but the high RPMs are what provide power.

Considering you've been driving standard all your life, this is a pretty bad car to decide to switch with.

You'd have to be pretty thickheaded to go with an auto considering you know how to use a manual. This is the worst possible vehicle you could choose to take an auto tranny over a manual. On top of that, how can we possibly give you any insight, when you haven't provided a quoted price?

Go with a manual if you need to buy a 2005 (to keep the price down). Only go with an AT if its a 2006 or newer. (it still sucks but at least you get a 6 speed AT and a bit more power).

DAMN!

You can get a similar '05 for a lot less.

You can get a manual 6 speed grand touring for less than $21.6.

We are in Canada,

21 for an 05 is an awesome deal, you'd be lucky getting one from a dealer at around $25k on the road.

Good job walking away, check out the youtube video on accelleration b/w a manual and auto rx-8 and you'll be really happy you waited!

The auto RX-8 have a much higher engine failure rate. That's pretty much an established fact. Stay clear.
