Returning a leased 8 and got damaged rims. Need recommendations.
Hi there,
I haven't posted here but I've been reading the forum a lot.
My problem is that my lease is expiring soon but ALL wheels have rash.
Mazda will probably not accept it and charge arm and leg for repair/new wheels.
A place I found charges $150 per wheel. Is there a cheaper way to go about this?
Thanks

I checked C.T. and Part Source but I don't know which paint would be a match. They cannot tell either. Is there a specific brand and # ?
And to answer the question, no. It's an option which I didn't get.

I think its a matter of guess and check, if you want to spend more, I would recommend sandblasting and powdercoating them, I know a guy that will do it for 250 total. But painting would be the best way. I would try going to Canadian tire with the rim, when its not busy, or a parts source, since the store is dedicated to auto parts.
How bad is the rash on the wheels? Mazda doesn't expect the car to be perfect - they may allow some small degree of wheel rash. I was told an inspection will be scheduled ~45 days before the lease return date. If you point it out to the inspector you can get a judgement at that time.
If they say the damage is not acceptable, then I would just go ahead and buy some used rims in good shape. You could then sell your rashed rims, I'm guessing for at least $100 each, so your out of pocket would probably be less than $150/wheel.

Yea, I guess I'll match it. Dealership was no help either.
A couple rashes are pretty bad, the rest are small.. I asked the dealership about the inspection and they said that they either call 40 days before, just like you mentioned and if not, then they inspect on the day of return.

I had my rims refinished at Carcone's in Aurora. They charge $125 per wheel plus $20 to remove and remount the tire. Their work is excellent and it's an exact match for the factory paint (or you could have them custom painted whatever colour you want - though since you're returning the car, I doubt that's an option you'd excercise).

I appreciate the replies, however I'm not going to repair the wheels myself anymore.
I got all the materials but the paint, which I couldn't find anywhere to match the original.
Mazda gave me number of the inspectors so I'll try to give them a call and have a pre-inspection.

keep us posted on what they say.
Well, the inspector came in today to check out the car. He was cool about the wheels even though he said the damage was above avg. No charges.
He still wrote down how much it would cost to repair and it came out waaaay cheaper than if you do it somewhere else.
I had problems with tires, but after calling 30 places I found a used set for 200 mounted. 225/45/18 are quite hard to find.
Rotten42, post pics of the damage if you can
