Question quick wheel fitment question

I currently have the stock 18x8 wheels on my rx8 with BFGoodrich g-force t/a tires size is 225/45/18 which still have a lot of good tread on them. I was looking to get a new set of rims, which I could use with my current tires to keep the cost down. I wanted to get the 5zigen FN01R-c non staggard fitment which I had and sold with my last vehicle. Although the local tire shop guy said that my tires are out of the fitment range 7.0in-8.0in for the 18x8.5 but said my tires were best for the 18x7.5 since they fall right in the middle of the fitment range. He said I probably could get my tires to fit on the 8.5 but it may cause the tires to wear funny. Any suggestions? Should I just use the 7.5?

I have 18X8.5 with a 44 offset and my stock tires fit fine.
