Ticking noise high load above 5K Revs

Starting yesterday evening I've been getting an odd ticking noise at roughly 3/4 + throttle with rev's above 5K. I've had the experience of pinging while running cheap gas going over the pass. This noise is different. It sounds more mechanical.

I did change the oil yesterday, and have checked for leaks at the filter and elsewhere. There don't seem to be any, and there's plenty of oil in the engine (yes, I did check).

Maybe your heat shield is loose at the cat.

Not the heat shield, but thanks. While I was under the car I noticed one of the plug boots was loose. I reseated them all, and now the sound definitely the pffft of a misfire. It's also not happening as readily. No CEL, but that's neither here nor there. Next step is testing the coils.

Hi

Does it go away when you turn off your airco ?

If there is not enough gas on the airco circuit, the pump makes a loud metalic clicking sound...

A/C wasn't on, fan set to 0, vents to face only.

It's not steady, and after reseating the plug wires the sound isn't as harsh and mechanical. It's now the soft puff and momentary hesitation of a misfire. Still no CEL though, which I had received when she misfired at the track.

More data. Plugged in my AP and watching the AFRs. Seems, when she spits, she's going lean, but it's still definitely not a distinct "ping." Quite a bit of troubleshooting to do, I think.

Was it with the stock map or the AP map that you started hearing it?

Could still be coils or crap gas. Injectors clogged maybe?

Stock map. Showed up about 14 hours before I got my AP.

What is the "pedal dance?"
