2008 v. 2004

I bought a 2004 RX-8, and loved it for the year and a half that I had it. Bought something else, and am now thinking about coming back to the 8. Does anyone have handy a list of any significant upgrades to the powertrain? I did all the TSB's for the old model.

I assume it would be reasonable to check the TSB list, and just assume that all those things were done to the new ones, but were there other major changes?

Thanks.

this is what Caveney (sp?) wrote in my other thread about the flooding issue:

"flooding issues have been resolved with ECU flashes, just dont back the 8 out of the drive and power her off. you let her warm all the way up and rev her to clear the bullets before powering her down, flooding will not be an issue."

not sure if this is what the original poster was looking for or not, but i thought i would toss it out there.

Besides the TSBs and recalls, here are the changes as I know them after the 2004 model year.

2005: AC condenser screen added; New starter and battery; Lightning Yellow dropped; Whitewater Pearl added Black Cherry Shinka edition added

2006: Intake manifold PCV design changed; Interior receives minor bezel brightwork changes; Leather specification changed; Galaxy Gray and Phantom Blue added; Black Cherry dropped for Shinka; Titanium Gray dropped

2007: 6 CD changer added to Bose stereo; Base changed to Sport; Sport changed to Performance Package; Winning Blue and Whitewater Pearl dropped; Stormy Blue and Crystal White added; Sand leather added; Black and brown leather dropped

2008: 40th Anniversary Edition added; Shinka dropped; Phantom Blue dropped

This post will be updated as I learn more...

I'd wait for the '09s as well. Love those Recaro seats! (I just wish that I could put them in my '04 Lightning Yellow)
