2008 RX-8 Chicago Sun Times review- Writer cant drive

She's the "AUtos Editor" , stall the car 3 times then blames the CAR!!

April 2, 2008
BY JILL CIMINILLO SearchChicago – Autos Editor

It’s been awhile since I’ve stalled one of my test cars. But I stalled the 2008 Mazda RX-8 at least three times. I was feeling pretty pathetic until I let a friend, who drives a manual transmission vehicle every day, pull the car into the garage. He immediately stalled it.

I laughed with relief. It wasn’t just me.

The clutch on the RX-8 is very stiff and very, very temperamental. If you don’t release it just right, well, you stall. As I quickly discovered, this is not a car that does well in Chicago traffic. Luckily, my commute is mostly during off-traffic times, so I could enjoy the acceleration more than be frustrated by the clutch.
Hey Sun Times- get someone that can DRIVE.

she likes it

From its quirky looks to its sporty ride, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the test vehicle. There aren’t too many RX-8s on the road, so I also liked the fact that it was relatively unusual. Made it easier to find the car in a parking lot.

but complains about not being able to put a KITCHEN TABLE in the BACK SEAT

While the back seat is somewhat roomy for passengers, the rear bucket seats with a center console make it difficult to slide anything onto the back seat. I was thinking about buying a new kitchen table during the test week, but ended up holding off because of the divided back seat.

If i didnt see the byline id swear this was written by Ann Jobs

Hey Chicagoites!! How about some letters to the editor to let her know how it actually drives everyday?

I don't subscribe but I can send something to the Automotive Editor.
These guys are too used to driving automatics.

Yeah, where is the link to send them an email? The first problem seems to be the fact that they have a woman as a automotive editor

That's pathetic.

She's testing a sports car, can't drive a manual, and complains about not being able to put a KITCHEN F'N TABLE in the back seat. In the future, test an auto if you can't drive, and have realisic expectations about the car.

btw, i'm pretty upset about my rx-8 not being able to go offroading, or fly. idiot.

That seems to be an On-Line blog for the Sun-Times group. The guy that usually writes the car articles for the Sun-Times newspaper is Dan Jedlicka. It is dated yesterday so I don't think it's in todays paper. I search the Sun-Times newspaper website and I couldn't find any reference to the RX8.

Someone should email them and ask them to review kitchen knives instead of cars.

Retarded review...

I think it's kind of funny that she stalled the car three times, but I think that the kitchen table comment is a valid complaint since Mazda bills the RX-8 as a practical sports car.

I disagree, how many "normal" cars would a kitchen table fit into? Perhaps a truck, but then again that is hardly a sports car, practical or not.

"female-centered issue" yep, sports car designers never take into account high heels. When will they ever learn.

If she doesn't like an Rx-8 clutch, she would hate a Mustang Cobra clutch, especially the '03 ones which were notoriously difficult to drive.

OK, Chicago female driver chiming in:

1. She's an idiot. If she were a he, I would state "he's an idiot." This has got to be the easiest clutch I've ever owned. I tried to teach someone how to drive stick once and was trying to show him where that point is that you stall. He let the clutch out slowly and the damn thing caught in first gear without any gas!!!

2. She's an idiot. This just had to be reiterated.

3. Driving stick in any rush hour traffic around Chicago blows. Welcome to life. PS, she's still an idiot.

4. Her female status has now been revoked. If she were a female worth any salt, she would know that you can fit a 3' x 4' framed piece of art from Ikea in the back. You can also fit a 6' aluminum ladder in the front seat when you recline the passenger seat all the way back. 10 bags of mulch fit in the trunk.

5. Even I (the goofball who fit all the stuff mentioned above in at one time or another) knows not to shop for a FREAKING KITCHEN TABLE with a sports car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6. The scariest thought is that this idiot will be joining us on the roads. She's probably that one who puts on her makeup while talking on the phone driving her SUV like a tank on the shoulder of the highway.

7. She is still an idiot. Where do I write? I'll be happy to tell her so

I've never seen you dress in white. JK

The thing that strikes me is this isn't her car. It is one lent to her and she is scratching up the interior trying to fit her table that won't fit. A guy could have sized that up instantly and known that.

The "mirrors at eye level" thing got me The only thing she should be test driving is a racehorse. I'd hate to see her behind the wheel of a 300C or Charge

And I call BS with this quote "I had a blast pushing through the gears for a quick acceleration." So she probably does have a lumbering suv and she didn't even compain about mpg! A fricken kitchen table The only thing she knows about this car is through the magic of google.

Dang, a kitchen table? In an RX8? Really?
...Really?!

I have a much more spacious wagon and I'd STILL be questioning if I could cram a even a small kitchen table into the damn thing.

Let this be a learning experience for all: Sports cars, believe it or not, are not trucks, and -strangely- are NOT designed to accommodate all the crap you want/need to haul around. There couldn't possibly be ANY reason to make a sports car small, it's just doesn't make sense!
