New engine concerns

I have 98,000 miles on my 8. took good care of her and have most if not all my paperwork. The thing is, I may need a new engine. What are my chances of having Mazda kick in for this replacement? I have no aftermarket components to blame.

It might be a coolant leak.

Where do you think the coolant is leaking from? There is only one way I can think of that you are not going to end up feeling ripped-off.

I'm not sure. When I mentioned my symptoms another poster said he had the same thing and it turned out to be coolant getting into his rotor and had his engine replaced. I'm taking mine back in next week will find out then.

My symptoms are when I start it in the morning or when it has sat for a while I get a rough idle for about 30 seconds and a blinking cel. After reving it a bit the rough idle goes away and the engine light stays on but the car runs fine. No loss of power. Every so often if I rev it high the coolant light will blnk then go off.

Talan: why'd you start this new thread???? Someone else had a coolant leak that matched someone else's issues and now you think you might have a leak???

Look, if your car isn't running right then get it checked out. You're out of the warranty phase so take it to a shop you trust (or get a recommendation from someone), get it checked out and go from there.
No sense just speculating

I thought that was what he was doing here(?). Besides, it' not like anybody ever directly answers a question on this friggin' website anyway. Lord knows I have tried to ask questions around here and rarely get a direct answer. Buncha ADD/ADHD-addled fools. Maybe I'll start a new thread discussing the psychology involved in this website.

My bad, J. I agree that Talan should consolidate his issue into one thread. I guess I am spending too much time on the phone getting BHR stuff done. I'll put that away for a while so I can be a more dedicated forum member.

What's with the "ghost rider"?

Everybody remembers Ice Man and Maverick but who was "Ghost Rider" and how is that relative? I just wanna "get" the joke. Besides, the moniker may fit(?).

Maverick: Tower, this is Ghost rider requesting a flyby.
Air Boss Johnson: That's a negative Ghost rider, the pattern is full.

It's just a habit of mine I guess. When I find myself disagreeing with someone or I'm going to use the word 'negative', I just throw in the ghost rider part.

Relax dude! This thread was just started posing the question whether Mazda has replaced someones engine out of warranty. Different query entirely from my last thread that I was opening up to larger audience.

I have seen Mazda cover the engine off warranty if the car was always serviced by them but they still charged the labor. Is this your situation?

That's what I was inquiring about.

28,580 miles out to be exact. But I will still try if this is the case. I will find out Monday.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the rotary engine life expectancy is only about 100,000 miles.

Until these engines are carbon coated for long life they usually die an early death.

Im sorry but stop posting crap out of your ***.

There are people with over 150K already, Not to mention the older NA RX-7 Engine can go over 200K without any problem.

It is true, I am a troll. but I don't have an EVO...

It is also true that you can get 200K out of your rotary, but by that age it is heavily burning oil and if you tear the engine apart you will see that the end plates are badly scored, the apex and side seals are just about worn to nothing and there will be a nice hop skip and jump scar on the rotor housing located just south of the compression point.

I know there are a lot of first time rotary powered owners here, spewing **** out both ends of their bodies, boasting about how great their 8's are.

Keep in mind that most of those 8 owners have never seen the inside of a rotary engine, except in photos and if I were to guess, 99% of all members on this forum have never rebuilt a rotary engine.

I owned my first rotary powered car in 1983, wrote my Engineering Thesis on the Wankel engine and I have personally rebuilt many 12A's and 13B's. I have seen the inside of several dozen rotary engines and I know that, what I speak is the truth.

Say what you like, but the reality is, these engines do not have a long life expectancy.
