brakes made a wierd sound...

so i had to slam on my brakes pretty hard for the first time yesterday, like to the floor, and i was greeted by what sounded like the entire front of my car breaking. don't really know how to describe it, it's like i pushed so hard i "broke" the brakes but was still slowing down. i can brake fine, so dont know if there was any damage or what...

or is that just ABS and ive never experienced it?

abs doesnt make any noise, it just feels like its pulsating or something. Was it a loud pop or bang sound? you may want to do a little inspection, pull the wheels and make sure all the bolts are tight and all. Was it wet or anything out? if your rotors are wet sometimes they will make a grunting noise from the pad half sticking to the rotor when actually stopping.

ABS does make a noise, the pedal will drop farther than usual, and the brakes will make a pounding noise like rapid-fire, in addition to pulsing at the pedal.

I'll have to inspect it more closely. It was a faster drop in the peddle and then the loud noise but no change in brakeing (i stopped ). Driving it around whenever I brake it feels no different prior, so it doesn't feel like anything was broken.

Maybe im just paranoid. On the upside i found out that I have a racing beat exhaust installed, which is good i found out because i was planning on ordering the mazdaspeed one. Saves me $600

yeah, that's ABS.

go find a safe spot, dont go too fast and slam on your brakes. You aren't going to break your brakes,

ABS activates when it senses that the wheels are slipping on the ground. If it actiavted under fairly mild conditions then I would consider checking your tire pressure or even a new pair of tires, as the old ones might be wearing out.
