Gas cap. Nothing critical.

Even if you haven't been getting CEL with code P0455, take it in. The new version cap is much nicer than the old.

Hey snipaz - did it say what VIN ranges it included? I'm getting the P0455 code (actually, it's P0456 which is a LARGE leak) but I haven't gotten any letter about it.

My dealer is such a pain in the ***....he'll have me come in, take 4 hours to "diagnose it", have to order the part, i'll come back a week later....blah blah blah...
OK enough bitching...

There are two TSBs (one for 0455, one for 0456) at

http://www.finishlineperformance.com....php?pageid=11

Check those out for VINs.

NYCGPS- yes it IS great neck mazda. They seem to do good work, but Mike (the head service guy) seems to just be really difficult about common sense things sometime. Like, if I told him "hey, this is the code i'm getting, I need a new gas cap, can you order it BEFORe I come in?" he would look at me like I'm crazy. Now, I understand they hae to diagnose the problem before charging mazda for warrantied parts, and all that crap. But somewhere in there....it's just not common sense stuff.

Maybe I should just go to wantagh mazda instead???

MM- yes, I could just buy the cap. but the dealer is 4 minutes from where I work, and it shouldnt be happening.

Oh yes, you mean that ultra 400 pound fat man right ?

If you read my story b4 u know what I've been thru with them, but Im just gonna run a quick memory flash back.

Basically is that, I did not got my car there, I went there because they have a loaner, First couple of time it was fine, they did ask me did I got the car thru them tho. After a couple of times, they start getting annoying, so I start printing out TSBs so they will *work* on it, then after a few more times, they start throwing me bullshit about aftermarket parts void warranty kind of crap. I got sick of it, and never turn back.

Hell I think I understand automobiles better than any of them @ the dealership.

If Mike is giving you crap, you can try to work with Frank, he is the manager and he can *probably* do better job than that 4 eye fat **** at the desk. Or you can have Gene to write your papers for you, some 60-70 yr old dude with glasses, he is not fat. just so you know

and when it comes to techs, David Yan, some asian dude, with hmm I forgot what was his name, some indian or something dude, are the ones who tried to give me those aftermarket warranty bullshit. and they dont even know **** about SSV and how to fix them.

They will not listen to you, and when you show them you know your car better than they do (like show them Mazda's TSB), they will start to try to throw you out of their dealerships. Giving you utter bull crap, etc.

They did a good job, well, Simple job to be exact. They dont even know what to do to the SSV problem. then tried to pull warranty crap on me, I just got pissed and fixed it myself (just drive it like I stole it) Some parts they have it in stock all the time, like the tail lights and brake pads, most other parts they will have to order it, and takes about 2-3 days b4 u can get ur car back.

there are TONS of stupid morons who will pay them 30 bux to do oil change, I was there one time and I saw this lady asking the fat **** like "oh what is wrong with my car?" , then he start pulling bs like "oh we believe the CEL was caused by a lot of things, your gas cap, and you need a new set of tires, plus your brakes are due, and you need some oil change, and some other sensors, total would be *I forgot the exact amount, but should be over 1K*"

I was like WTF. but they love those morons, and will ALWAYS *do* their jobs first, warranty ? You better wait at least a day.

I don't know if MSP13 is legally a recall, but it's effectively one. If your car falls in the VIN range and your car is at a Mazda service department, they're supposed to replace the cap. This campaign applies to several other Mazda models, not just the 8s.

The postcard I got from my dealer called it a recall.

If you're getting a CEL and still under warranty, they have to fix whatever it is. FWIW, the evap system codes can be due to things other than the cap. According to one of the TSBs it could be the filler neck. Search this site for P0455 and you'll find a few other interesting tales.

SOOOOOOOOOO I am now at 51K miles. I'm assuming they won't help me with the gas cap? Or does this fall under "powertrain" or whatever it is that now extends to 60K?

Does a gas cap sound like it's part of the engine or transmission?

heh...look I'm very involved with politics at the moment.....I could probably spin a gas-cap-as-part-of-the-engine argument pretty good...

You know the 0455 recall isn't just the cap. According to the finishline TSB it is the filler neck that they are replacing, and they are budgeting 2.4 hours to do it. If you fall within the '06-'07 VIN range I would definitely take it in to be done and not just buy the cap.

The 0456 TSB is just for the cap, and it is for '04-'05 models.

I haven't gotten a notice yet (mine falls under the cap only one). But I took my car in for that CEL 3 months ago. They didn't mention any bulletin or recall and didn't replace that cap. Just said that everything seemed ok now.
