Anyone else? I'm having trouble finding a front one in stock somewhere. The whiteline is only 27mm, I'd like 32mm.

Take note, Whiteline bars are solid, therefore stiffer than similar diameter hollow bar, maybe 20% or so. Even hollow bars can have different wall thickness and therefore different stiffnesses. And I'm only speaking of differences between NON-adjustable bars.

If you opt for an adjustable bar (IMO far more useful) you can make a nominally less stiff bar (nominal being at middle setting) stiffer than another bar that has a nominally less stiff spec. by setting the link to shorten the lever arm.

Bottom line, go for a good adjustable, but remember it should complement your spring setup (from OEM to coilover). Going too stiff won't help your ultimate handling.

 

So what are the benefits of an adjustable? I don't think I'd ever adjust them anyways.

Just as Spin said above: You can change the settings for a more stiff ride, or if its not quite what you want, you can adjust it back to a less stiff bar.

If you search, there is a big thread called Sways Sways Sways or something like that.. Has all the info you will need.

 

The benefit is not so much to change the ride stiffness (comfort - sways affect that only to a small degree) but rather it allows you to change the balance and handling characteristics of the car.

say your car oversteers more than you like, you can dial in more stiffness up front (or less in the back) to increase understeer. And of course too much understeer the reverse holds true.

If you get fixed bars and don't like the handling, well you're a bit in a pickle except for adjusting tire pressures or alignment, not an optimal way of going about it.

 

Got it! I'm picking up a set of adjustable ones, Is there a rule of thumb on stiffness? I see most have 2-3 different holes, the lower the holes=stiffer?

I use to have a fixed set in my RX7

 

The shorter the arm of the bar, the stiffer. So the inside holes are stiffer, the ones further out, less stiff.

 

I carry Eibach and Hotchkis sway bars for the RX8.
