Feeler: Rotary Car ECU tuning seminar..

I know this pertains more to Turbo/supercharged car like RX7s but I thought some of you might be interested in learning more about how modern rotary cars work.

As you all might know, I organize the "Deals Gap Rotary Rally" and recently organized, "Chuck Westbrook PowerFC tuning seminar". I myself have paid over $600 to attend EFI101 classes and personally tried to learn how to tune rotary cars. During my search, there are very little information about this and its VERY expensive to let someone else tune your car. If you rather have someone else tune it, at least you'll know what they are doing instead of believing 100% that they are tuning your car correctly..

I'm organizing this seminar co-inside with DGRR 2008 so that you could enjoy the company of fellow Rotorheads and then learn about the magic behind "tuning stand alone ECUs". I'm also going to make this seminar VERY
reasonable so that you could attend DGRR and attend this class.

Right now I'm just trying to get a feel to see how many of you are interested..

The class will be lead by one of the veteran rotorhead with many years of tuning rotary cars.

Class/Seminar will cover:

1. How Rotary Engine works
2. Rotary vs Piston Engine
3. Fuel System 101
4. What is Timing??
5. What is Data logging?
6. How to set up your car?
7. What's Air Fuel Ratio?
8. What does ECU do?? And how do I tune it??

Also, Q&A with the veteran rotary owners/shop owners/tuners, etc.

Please post over at http://www.DealsGapRotaryRally.com forum if you are interested.. Class/Seminar will be about 3-4hours long and cost will be VERY reasonable ($50-65 pending number of students).

If you are interested please post over at: http://www.DealsGapRotaryRally.com

Thanks you!

Hmm. Road trip.
Lets see. I get back to Phoenix from Colorado Springs on the 10th. If I drive all night, I might make Tennessee by Friday...

I think this is a great idea, but the curriculum you listed sounds pretty basic. I this would be more useful if you gave people prerequisites like, you should know how a rotary works, you should know the different variables that a tuner has to play with (timing, fuel, etc) and typical ways of influencing them. That kind of stuff you can learn online with a little research.

Then at the actual seminar you could have discussion by people who have actually tuned cars our cars, about what kind of AFRs / timing numbers have worked for them in what kind of setup. Differences between safe / bleeding edge tunes. How to recognize you may be getting close to popping your engine. How to tune out specific issues (like the various ports opening on the 8) Etc.

I think this could be a great thing, esp if you can get some guest stars in there to share their experience. Scott? MM?

I've attended $500 EFI 101 Class and all other seminars I've attended all starts out with the basics.. Just to get everyone on the same page.

I've already did one seminar here in Bham back in June 2007 and that seminar was taught by one of the veteran rotary tuner, Chuck Westbrook. This seminar will be based on his seminar (Chuck gave me the rights to do this) and will be presented by rotary guy that I knew for many years and a mentor of mine.

Class will be more towards turbo charged FD guys who use PFC and Datalogit but the same principle could be applied to any other rotary engines and stand alone ECUs. I guarantee you that this class will be more educational than $500 EFI101 class you would take.. For $50-65, this is a BARGAIN!!

Unfortunately, there will be NO internet seminar as this is just a feeler and one time only event.
