Interesting Thought..

Have just been to my dealers to order acc's.

He asked me if as my 8 was arriving in December would I like to wait until 1st Jan to collect the car so that it could be registered as a 2004 model.

Not sure I could wait knowing that my 8 was sat in the dealers.

What are your thoughts on this??

I'm in the same situation. My car is arriving at the dealer some time after the 17th December. If it only means waiting an extra few days , I'm going to have it registered as a 2004, although I have no idea what the affect on the residuals will be.

I suspect you'd be looking at approx £500 extra on your RV if it was registered in 2004 rather than 2003 but that's only on computer systems and in CAP and Glasses etc. All depends on whether you will be selling privately in which case I'd say it makes no difference.

Thanks Andy,

Good advice. You've convinced me to take delivery of mine even if it is coming in the middle of December.

Too right

I'm not going to miss out on the 8 for a paltry £500!!

Especially as this forum will be soon full of VERY HAPPY OWNERS all posting pics of their 8's & telling of all the fun they're having

Here in Belgium my dealer also asked to wait until 2004.
As I do not plan to sell the car after a few years, I wil get the car as soon as it is ready. I am waiting since end january now and that is just more than enough.

Wait till 2004 or take delivery in a few weeks?

I've read this somewhere else but I'm thinking since I've waited this long I may as well wait until January 2004 to take delivery of my car.

Anybody else thinking of doing the same?

Not a chance.

It's nearly christmas, and this is my present. They'd have to prise the key out of my cold dead hands.

I don't really think it will have any significant effect on the resale value. I know that it makes the car a 2004 instead of a 2003, and that consequently it will be listed in a different column in parkers et al, but they are quite braodly interpreted.

I would certainly look at the prcecise date of registration of any nearly-new car I was buying and price it accordingly.
Not that I am ever going to sell the car anyway.

The ONLY thing Both me and my Wife set as a priority was that we get the car before christmas - that was the cancel point.

No way am I waiting a day longer than I have to.

I was thinking of waiting for 2004 - my car doesn't arrive until 17th December, so it shouldn't make much difference.

Then again, I know if my dealer called to say I could have my car a couple of days after the 17th I would be off down to the showroom to pick it up before he had put the phone down!

Merged the 2 identical threads together. This one is younger, but has the better title....

But will it? Parkers isn't my normal bedtime reading so this is just a guess: In the good old days, when there was one new registration a year, and that approximately in the middle, the guides split the registration into years bringing it down to a five/seven month period. Now that registrations are changed every six months do they not deem that to be enough, or will they really show 53 '03, 53 '04, 04 mar-?, 04 ?-aug - I suspect not.

So the question is not "should you wait for January?", but "should you wait for March?".

The answer is "No"
