So how bad is it if these metal things circled in the picture are loose? I've got one on the front and one on the rear that are loose and rattle when I go over bumps.

I noticed it at first because I could hear the one in the back rattling. When I rotated my tires today I noticed the one on the front is loose as well. As a bonus the one on the rear has stopped adjusting. I can spin the adjuster freely and you can tell it is not doing anything. I can no longer tighten it up.

I've only had them on the car for about a year or so. I'm beginning to think the build quality on them isn't that great.

what i had.. one piston broke at the threads on the install.. and yes i was using a tq wrench... replaced under warranty.

one other shock started loosing oil at ~ 10 k miles replaced under warranty.

since then ~ 25k miles all is good..

as to the so called stripped rear shock. what has probably happened is you backed off to far and the fitting has come undone in the adjuster... i had this happen.. racing beat replaced that with a updated product.. you will have to pull the shock to see if that is an issue..

the metal rings have not been an issue for me. good luck. pm me if you need further help..

I had this same problem at install on one of the fronts. I was also using a manual torque wrench.

I don't think I backed off too far but it is possible I guess. I think I'm just going to look at replacing them with some Konis or maybe even an adjustable coilover setup.

I still wonder about the metal caps. Not sure if they are just a dust boot type of thing or what but the rattling sucks.

Did you send back to Tokico directly or did you have to return to the dealer you bought them from?

 

had to go through the dealer.. they were fine, but it was very time consuming...

if you want coilovers. look for the kw buy..
