Anyone have any experience with either? One better than the other? I just bought the Mothers Plastic Polish at Pepboys. They were out of Meguiars.

 

i've used the Mother's on my headlights on my 240SX. it seems to work pretty good.

Eh, about the same really. Basically a very mild abrasive.

 

Plastic X worked pretty well on my headlights.

 

Well I bought Mothers and tried it out today. It definitely removed some of the fogginess of the lenses, but it did not bring them back to just like new quality. I may try it again to see what further improvement I can do. At this point, I think they improved enough for me to not buy new housings.

anyway, id like to know as well. my passenger side headlight is a little yellow

 

I have both and Mother's was the one I've had for some time where I used to live. It was initially a disappointment as it didn't remove the more visible scratches on my previous car though it left the surface very smooth and much crisper overall.

When I needed a plastic polish prior to getting my car (for the PSP / PS3), I tried out the PlastX.. it polishes a bit too much IMO.. aka. abrasive. There were marks it introduced as a result (and I was using a microfiber towel and applying very carefully) and a haze that was very hard to remove.. although it gave it a very high artificial shine (goes away after a few days though).

I decided to purchase the Mother's again and it was much better at the job. For soft plastic such as the piano black plastic in the 8's interior or gauge covers, I'd go with Mother's.. can't go wrong with it really. I tried it with an orbital buffer on a swirled modern Honda tail light too and holy hell did it work. The taillight came out mint! Also did it on an iBook G4's white plastic body and works great.

There's also Plexus Plastic Cleaner & Polish.. which is hardly abrasive (if at all) but does a great job of regular plastic maintenance (say the PS3 is dusty and has a sticky film to it from household crap in the air) and very easy to apply.

There are other plastic polishes available for more dedicated people available online but Mother's gets my vote for regular plastic polishing. Just be aware of its limits and where a buffer will be needed.

I think additional applications improve the appearance. I could try a friend's orbital buffer.

 

i too wanted to try it with an orbital buffer, before i just did small applications and rubbed it in, but it didnt give me the desired results...like someone said it would look shinny but after a few days it would go away. im guessing the speed of the buffer can really let the polish do the work

 

I used a buffer and it worked. I use the plastic polish from motorcycle shops.
