I live in Chicago, Illinois. I was looking into getting some summer tires, but I need some help deciding. I would like to know your opinions on what is the highest gripping tire for mostly dry and hot conditions. It does rain out here but I barely ever drive when it rains. My spending limit is no more than 300 per tire. So please help and thanks for anyone that responds.

 

for 300 a tire you can get pretty much anything you want thats DOT legal. check with the track and autox guys, they can tell ya whats best.

myself i would prefer the falken rt615 azenis, but have to settle for the fk452's

I was looking at all the different companies, and does anyone have any details about nitto 555 or the goodyear f1? I was very interested in the nitto... but other than that i saw the falken 452 also and that looks great!

 

I forgot to tell you guys, I am looking for a street tire. A tire that can corner at ultimate grip levels for the normal driver and when night falls, it grips even better for the street racing scene.

 

Any Max or Extreme Performance tire will suit your grip needs. Look for treadwear ratings below 280 for grippy rubber.
Soft sidewalls further forward launch grip. A drag radial is what you need for that (Nitto or BFG drag radial).
For the street racing scene, you need someone to tie you to a light pole to be tarred and feathered.

 

HaHa, Yeah I would say the same to a street racer that does it under uncontrollable circumstances and on the street around innocent people. When I say street racing scene, it's basically the same thing but the drags are setup on private property. A friend sets up friday nights as "street racing night" So tuners and american muscle show up to his land and we have a good time with no interruptions by police or someone getting T-boned. i just bought some Yokohama S-Drives. i haven't had the chance to evaluate them yet (they're only a week old), but i've been buying Yokohama tires for 15+ years now (A509s, AVS Intermediates). i've been nothing but pleased with them on the street.

 

i have heard great things about Advan Neovas. also kuhmo ecstas.

Being that this car has no torque, look into launch techniques before purchasing your tire.
Too much grip and sidewall flex without enough torque will make you bog all night long. You want some tire slip to be able to keep the revs up, but not too much slip as to sit there spinning.
Look into the proper rear tire psi to run at, what other people are doing to get proper launch in terms of clutch/throttle technique to get off the line, etc.
On a high powered, high torque RWD car, it's put on sticky tires, drop the psi below 20, and get your footwork right.
On an AWD car, you want higher psi in the tires to promote some wheel slip and avoid the bog. I would think that our car falls somewhere between the above two examples.

Toyo Proxies RA-1. Enough tread where you can drive in the street, but is a "competition" type tire.

Keep in mind that most of these tires will last about a year. I got 2 track days and 4 autoxs out of my RT615 azenis. About 4K miles total. They still function on the street but their racing days are gone.

I just mounted up a set of Toyo R888's.... Look like they could be used as a "street tire". Going to try them on the track on Friday.

Ok, I think I have made up my decision... I am going with a set of four yokohama ad07 for my street use, and yokohama a048 for track use. But I have another quick question about tire sizes. I want just a bit wider tire. I know the stock tires at 225/40/18 I was wondering what is the difference between that and the 245/40/18? If your talking about your stock rims , then yes 245 fit ....Thats what I have ...

 

yes ... 245s fit. i bought 245/35-18s. i don't think you'll be disappointed with the Yokes.

 

Reaper and Diabolical your reading comprehension is worse than mine.

Those wheels are 7.5" and although they physically will fit, it would not be recommended. Plus why would you buy a wider tire and a skinnier wheels?
