how's your squealing brake problem? i've been searching alot on this and have a read alot of threads but they're mostly outdated.

so i thought i'd ask how these guys with upgraded/aftermarket brake sets are doing after having them for almost a year or even more. are you still experiencing the squeals or is it completely gone?

It's ironic that I use Hawk HP Plus pads on this car and don't get any brake squeal. I've used them on other cars and they've sounded like a dumptruck being brought to a halt.

I've got hawk ceramics, and drilled/slotted rotors. no bad sounds at all.

I hear a little bit of sound from the rotors and the slots during hard braking, but it's not squealing or anything.

Hawk fronts, rotors are drilled, not slotted (shaken, not stirred!)

One year, not a squeak or squeal.

squealing is going to be a result of the pads, not the rotors.

I have the Brembo slotted/drilled and Hawk HPS pads.
No noises, squeaks or anything.
Sometimes, if I'm riding along a curb, I can hear the pads passing over the holes. It makes a very quiet "fft-fft-fft" noise.

The dust is brown instead of black, but no biggie.

Had the Hawks and RB slotted rotors ... meh...no noise whatsoever, even after a year... everyone said they make terrible noise. Ditched them suckers...wimpy! Now I got me some REAL pads, and they do squeal like a pig each and every stop! Bitchin! That's more like it

I just bought my car about a month ago. It has 13,000 miles on it and I have no idea if they have ever been changed. I have a horrible squeeking problem, almost every time that I brake the squeal really bad. I am so embarrassed to be driving in this beautiful car and have it sound so awful! Any cheap, efficient ideas that you all may have. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

You being embarrassed when your car makes noise is understandable. But also understand, your reaction is no reflection on the quality of the brakes in your car.

The noise comes from the quality materials used to produce the prodigious stopping power the RX-8 has.

If you don't care about that so much(depends on the use of your car), and never use it's braking potential to the fullest (like at the track), you can replace those noisy pads with a far more 'street only' type pad. That will reduce or eliminate the noise, and a lot of the brake dust more than likely.

The other way to think about the noise is that it shows the quality of car you have (if you hung around racers much you'd REALLY hear what squeaky brakes sound like!!) Then you can 'enjoy' the noise as you know you have some 'nearly the best' brakes on any car in existence!

It's all in your perception of what's going on.

This looks pretty good just concerned over opinions of this rotors chewing up pads. I have to replace my brakes, my A/C is out as well and ordering more tires from tire rack. Third set of Kumhos.
