Suggestions on Where to Buy in the New York Metro Area?

I plan on purchasing an 07 Sport with performance package to take advantage of the $3500 rebate. I live on Long Island and don't mind traveling a bit for a good price and a dealer able to get a car for me.

Do you have any suggestions as to which dealers to contact in this area?

Thanks!
Steve

Cars Direct

Has anyone had any experience with them?

I think you should try the Autotrader. Enter your zip code, determine the radius in miles from your zip code and you should be able to check out quite a few RX8s in your area. Btw, 07 Sports were going for 21k in my area; brand new. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will be visiting a dealer tomorrow. May be able to get a Sport, 6 spd, performance package, wing (unfortunately) for invoice minus $3,500 if it's still available.

There's a dealer locator on the mazda website, type in your zip and start calling internet sales managers. That's what I did when I bought my 05 leftover in 06. I ended up calling every single dealer in TX, OK, Ark and got a very hefty discount over what was being offered at the local dealers.

I then purchased a 80 dollar one way ticket, had my sales guy pick me up and take me to the dealer and drove 5 hrs home with a lot more cash in my pocket. Just tell them the exact options you're looking for and a firm price and see if they say yes or no.

Thanks!

With both your suggestions I was able to pick up a silver 07 Sport, performance package, MT and wing for dealer invoice minus the $3500 rebate. Here in the northeast that seems like the best deal available at this time. There were only 4 Sports left between NY and ME. Everything varies by region and dumb luck, ya know. I'm here on Long Island and the car is in NH so they have to bring it down. Unfortunately, I cannot take the time off from work to purchase the car from that dealer directly.

Wanted this car in particular as it'll be used in B Stock and track events almost exclusively. Sunroof adds about 40 lbs. up high on the roof. Even though I enjoy them for my daily drivers (currently an 05 Saab 9-2X with suspension and engine mods), they're not optimum if you're a hardcore autocrosser.

My 99 CSP Miata is eagerly awaiting a friend in the garage!

Great! I also had a dealership ship a particular color I was looking for from another state. I also have the "wing" in addition to sunroof and other amenities.
Btw, since you autocross in a Miata, do you happen to hang around the miata forum as well?

Welcome Steve. Where in Long Island are you located? We just had a meet last night ... about 12 cars.. in Farmindale. Good time.

I'm near Port Jefferson.

Good luck with the new 8.

Thanks! I live in Dix Hills and my office is in Merrick. You guys should come down to the SCCA autocrosses at the Coliseum in the spring.

Very good. I go to the AutoX's at NC when I can. I've run my Integra and Z3 there in the past. Usually go with my daughter who also likes to run there.
I've seen several RX8s at the events and they do VERY well. It is one reason that pushed me to get an 8.

Not sure where you stand on a decision on the one in NH. As you read here, picking up an out of state vehicle shouldn't take much more time than an hour trip to a dealer somewhere else on the Island. AND as other posters have said, it can save you big bucks. The dealers will help you out getting you from the airport.

You probably have seen me in my green Miata with magnetic teeth on the side. I would enjoy picking the car up myself, unfortunately I have NO TIME as it is for what I need to do. I'd much prefer being the one breaking it in. But the additional expense is just part of life.

Yes, I know your car. There is also another miata who does very well who is in Floral Park. He is neighbor and friend of Tim Keller who I work with. (Blue bmw 330ci). My son and I both have NC's. His an 06 mine an 07. We're looking forward to some sprintime autox fun.
Am curious what attracted you to the rx8?

I needed another toy. Boredom? Was going to get a new Vette, but I think maybe it's too "in your face" for me. The RX is a lot more understated.
