After a conversation with Cromax a week ago, I have changed to Mobil 8000 fuel after 12 months using BP Ulitmate and 12 months of Optimax before that. I changed from Optimax cause It just started feeling like ****, BP was great for a time but has been feeling like crap as well (Possible side affects from other issues).

So just curious what everyone else is using.

Shell for me in the States. Probably the cleanest source of fuel besides Chevron over here.

 

Ultimate here. Tried Synergy 8000 and my car pinged. Haven't really tried anything else.

 

I voted BP ulimate but I also use Shell Optimax...nothing else....

 

I use caltex vortex 98, so far so good, a lot of people i know suggested it. having said that, I've only ever used shell v-power beside the caltex, and can't tell any difference... so

I use Mobil 8000. They changed it a lot about 6 months ago so I gave it a go and felt it a lot more up in the high rev ranges. You don't use as much of it as well.

I started going to Mobil when I noticed Shell V-Power had gone downhill, perhaps it's on purpose so they can sell their more expensive "racing" product.

So yer, in effect both cost me the same, I get 50k+ more out of Mobil, whereas with Shell, I get a docket

 

Interesting thing is that 18 months ago I had an emergency fill up on Mobile 8000 and also had problems with pinging.

To soon to see about economy for me.

 

I used to be a BP Ultimate fan too but these days I just fill up with any 95 or 98 that's convenient. Have noticed absolutely no difference in power/response and I pay no attention to economy.

 

I did that recently. BP Ultimate seems to bog down after 2 or 3 fills in a row. United gave what felt like a flatspot at 4000rpm-ish. Shell doesn't last as long, and because of the number of k's I do a week (sometimes 2 fillups) I do notice economy, but don't really care about it (Kall can tell you how much I hate filling up my car). I never used to use Mobil due to the fact that it used to feel sluggish and ping, but after trying it out (due to an emergency fill up), I've come to the conclusion that their product is slightly better for the rotary than the others.

So in order of preference for me out of the 98 octane petrols available it would be:

1. Mobil 8000
2. Shell V-Power
3. Caltex Vortex 98
4. United whateverit'scalledwithethanolinit
5. BP Ultimate

 

The fuel are different in different state.

BP in Adelaide is different from BP in Melbourne and V power is not as good in Adel than in Melb

 

I use whatever is handy when I need fuel (95 or 98). Lately I've started using the boost98 ethonol blend. The car runs just as good with the same economy and it's cheaper.

 

Am using regular 91...................

Recently, the engine has started to "ping" on medium / high load. Using BP-Ultimate fixes it but the cause is due to the failing coils sparking the little MSP engine.

Any other Sydney North Siders had trouble finding BP Ultimate in the last couple of days? I went to 2 different stations today, Pac Hwy, and Epping Rd, and neither had Ultimate OR Premium 95.
Anybody heard a reason/excuse?

 

Probably because Mobil has refused to supply?

 

I use whatever servo I can get too. Yesterday it was the leftover race fuel from the classic...decanted at home....no care about economy.....the only one i don't like is mobil cause i think their pump labelling system is confusing.... I use whatever.....shocking too I have also used one tank of ethanol blended 98 when I couldn't get anything else....car is fine and no issues with pinging...maybe cause I keep the revvs up in all gears...

 

In Sydney This is my Order of Preference:
1) BP Ultimate
2) Vortex 98
3) V-Power Racing

Although while I was Up @ Schoolies in Surfers it kind've changed:
1) Vortex 98
2) BP Ultimate or V-Power

Personally I like both Ultimate & Vortex 98 and they both perform similarly for me. I'm not really keen on Shell but Up and Down the Coast on my road trip theres more Shell outlets than BP/Caltex. V-Power isn't that great but I would use it if I had to.

 

well after 3 tanks of Mobil8000 I have to say that I am impressed. I am going to put the fuel economy increse down to the extra freeway cycles I am doing, but the extra power between 2500 and 4500 rpm is really nice.

 

Yeah, I notice that as well.

 

All we have around here is 93 so I just use the most convenient 93 at any given time. If I plan on going to the track with the miata i'll add torco to boost me to 100.

 

Whats the reason why Fuel in the U.S. is never above 91 (or 93) RON?

Actually the US dont use RON. 93 in the US is about 100 RON so stop complaining

 

I always fill up with BP Ultimate whenever possible (almost all the time)
If I can't find a BP servo nearby, I usually go with Mobil 8000

Both have been good to me so far

Yeah, they use MON, which is apparently a more accurate measurement compared with RON.

Edit: I just read that in the US and Canada they use the average of RON and MON on their bowsers. So in that case, their 93 would be the same as our 98.

So yer, they shouldn't complain, they're getting the same jungle juice that we get!
