New RX-8 owner Very happy

Helllo, I just bought a 2004 rx-8 gt 6-speed. I love this car. I went to Skip Barber racing school and that where I fell in love with these cars. Skip barber takes off the traction control and but 16 inch rims in the back to make them a little harder to handle. I really have an appriciation for the car after they taught me how much they are actually capable of. I do have a question about my car though. I do not know if this is normal. If I have the car in a high gear with the rpms low, if i pin the gas the rpms goes up and then it goes back down as the car accelerates untill the engine spins up and then the rpms climb again. I know this sounds confusing but its almost like the the clutch is sticking but it feels fine. Any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase.

As far your experience goes, it sounds like you're driving a 6 Speed AT in which case what you're experiencing is absolutely normal. The transmission will generally drop lower gears if you punch the accelerator.

If you are driving a MT then your problem is not normal. It points to a clutch that is wearing out and loosing grip to the pressure plate. In this case, you will be needing to replace your clutch soon.

He meant the auto RX-8's referenced in the post he was quoting. But even so, how could one have clutch sticking issues in an auto?

Unfortunately that is not true...BUT the good news is while it's all apart you could put in a light flywheel, better clutch!
