Was installing my new RB spark plug wires when WTF?
So I was installing my new RB spark plug wires this lovely Labor Day weekend and I discovered #1 trailing spark plug was corroded. Anyone know why? None of the other plugs have corrosion whatsoever. The dealer was closed so couldn't get new plugs so I decided to sand off the corrosion as a band-aid for now. I think the plugs got about 25k on them. Car seems ok. I'm sure some new plugs will be even better. I recently replaced the coils because I started getting major power loss. The coils made an incredible difference. I'm guessing that maybe a bad coil resulted in the corroded plug, but I dunno. I don't really know which coil(s) was(were) bad. See the pic.

that one slips off a lot..
beers
You might also check out the high voltage ignition wires (the ones that connect the spark plugs to the coils). There is a big possibility that their connections are corroded too, and need replacement.

Yeah, I did check and the one wire it was connected to had some minor corrosion inside it. Not as bad as the plug itself, though.
Yup, I had the same problem with the plugs that the car came with. My wire hadn't slipped off. The contact corroded inside of the boot BECAUSE it had never been dipped with anti-corrosion protection (ther green paint on the contacts of all the other plugs). I also sanded off the corrosion which worked in the short term and bought new plugs. My power and fuel mileage shot up after that.
I'll try to remember to let you know this weekend. That's when I'm gonna take them out. But so far so good - 2 days after discovery and running fine.
at ~30k miles that was the problem with my sudden power loss..
did not work out that way..
beers
Next time use di-electric grease on the spark plugs connections before you put the plug wires back on. Helps keep corrosion away and more importantly help ensure the parts do not get corroded together.
yeah i just had to get my coils and plugs replaced over the labor day weekend, i've been noticing power loss for a while but the everytime i took it to the dealership never could find out what was wrong and they told me nothing was wrong, until it finally broke down on me. I just got it back, and it's running right now
