New member, Stormy Blue Mica RX-8

Hi All,

Just joined the RX-8 fan club. I've been eyeing these beauties for a few years and finally got the wife's OK to buy one. Got the 2007 GT 6speed in Stormy Blue Mica. She's a beauty and drives like a dream.

Cheers!

Awesome choice. Is that a used VR with a MS front bumper for sale?

Congrats on the car.

Is this your first time in rotorland, or are you familiar with the mini-beast that sleeps beneath your hood?

It's my first time, but I've been doing a lot of reading up on the rotory engine since I first laid eyes on the 8 in 2004. I ended up going "practical" and getting the Mazda 6s instead back then (which is a great car, btw). When I bought my 8 last week I went in with my eyes wide open, fully expecting a gas-guzzling, oil-burning, high-revving sports car. To me its very much like being married. My wife knows what all of my faults are but chooses to ignore them and focus on my positive features.

I'm still in the break-in period so I'm trying to stay under 4K rpm (per the dealer, even though the manual says to stay under 7K). It's pure joy to drive and I love the looks I get. There's only one problem though. It's hard to pry my wife out from behind the steering wheel!

It's always a pleasure to aquire a member who did their homework first. It's a nice relief from the standard "I only have 2000 on my new car and I already need an oil change WTF? Also, why is it so slow I think it's broke! And what's all this I keep reading about my engine flooding? Is my new car going to die when it hits 30,000 miles??"

Best of luck to you and your new obsession.

And now, my mandatory onslaught of questions for new members/owners:

1 - Any plans for modifications in the future, or are you going to keep her stock?

2 - Where are you located? (update your profile while your at it, too )

3 - What's her name?

4 - What other "nice" cars have you owned, and how do they size up to the 8 in your mind?

1 - No plans, she's pretty enough stock.
2 - San Jose, CA. Profile updated.
3 - Haven't thought of a name yet. Hmm...any suggestions?
4 - This is my first "nice" car. All others have been rather boring: Accord, Civic, Sienna...ya know, good practical family cars.

Is it wrong that I sometimes sit in my driveway just staring at her?

Is that color the same as the dark blue of the x-men car a few years ago. I thought that color was only available over seas. Does the u.s. have that color option now? God that is a gorgeous color for the 8. Congratulations and welcome. You will love it here.

1 - lol not the kind of mods I meant. It's all about drivability

2 - Aww I was hoping Houston would have a new face at their weekly meets

3 - Don't rush it. She'll tell you her name. Rotaries have a way of "talking" all you have to do is keep your ears open

4 - Nothing wrong with family cars. I've owned my fair share of family sedans, too. FWD + rain + handbrake = lots of fun :D

Is it wrong that I sometimes sit in my driveway just staring at her?
Nope. Welcome to the RX-8

Good question. Seeing it for the first time in that movie is what got me drooling and I never stopped. That color is supposedly new for 2007, in the US at least, and it's in the Mazda brochure. I've never seen one on the road in my area. It was on the dealer showroom floor and I didn't even bother asking "how much?"...instead I said "I'll take it!" MSRP was $35K and I got it out-the-door for $33K (includes Nav package).

Biggest downside to the color is it shows EVERY SINGLE scuff mark and scratch. Oh well, all the more reason to baby her with regular baths and wax jobs.

Cheers and thanks for the warm welcome from everyone!

I would think something was wrong with you if you didn't.
I have to open the door to the garage before I go to bed, I tell the wife I'm just making sure the side door is shut.
She laughs.

That's the color I'll get on my next RX-8.

Same here. I owned a Mazda Protege 5 for 3 years, now that was practical. In fact I still have all of the autoshow marketing materials from 2003. My rotary shaped mini CD is really cool.
