Why would Porsche call its fastest, most HP car the GT2 and the next fastest GT3?

Seems like the names are backwards. The GT2 is twin turbo, more powerful, and more expensive than the GT3. Can someone please explain why it's called GT2? Seems like it should be called GT4.

Don't quote me on this, but Porsches follow's the motorsports way of IMSA.
GT3 class is the lowest race bred class, GT2 class is more powerful, then you have GT1 class or P1/P2(prototype class)which has the closed and open prototypes.
GT3 porsches are standard 911's with bodywork and suspension upgrades. GT2 Porsches have the exact same upgrades as the GT3 Porsches plus minor upgrades to the twin turbo motor.
I would love to see Porsche come back in the GT2 class. It would give some pressure to the all dominating GM Z-06 and the slowly making its mark Aston Martin which run in the GT2 class. Hopefully Dodge will bring there newely revised Viper back into the series.

A little OT but I think my wife's boss has a GT3 RS. I caught a glimpse of it leaving her work the other day. It has those distinctive black rims but the car itself was black. I thought the GT3 RS was only offered in orange and lime green but I'm not sure. Whatever it is, it's new, it's a Porsche, and I want a ride.

Perhaps he got aftermarket wheels, but that just doesn't seem right on a GT3 so I doubt it. If it was a GT3 it had to have at least a little orange on it.
