Need your opinions...

Guys, I'm within a week of picking up a new car (the 8 is at the top of the list) BUT Looking at all the aftermarket stuff everybody is putting on their Mazda, I don't really know if this car is for me.

I want to clarify, this is not a flame on any one who puts aftermarket items on their cars. Car lovers are all one happy family as far as I'm concerned and I totally respect wanting to individualize their ride. Painted calipers, PS2s, is pretty wild stuff BUT...

I just happen to be a stock guy. For example, I admire the cars in Fast and Furious, but I would never drive one. Just not my speed. With that said, do you think the 8 is a car destined to be in 3 Fast 3 Furious? Or is it more on par with an Infiniti G35? Just curious to see what others think

I'm not sure I really see your point. Well....IMHO.....the RX-8 will be more than a tuner car due to the broad appeal and functionality of the design. This car is an affordable and "somewhat" family oriented sportscar. Dad can justify getting this one without Mom complaining about lack of space to haul the kids. It's also affordable enough that younger people (i.e. not married with children) will buy it and immediately start fixing it up to be a show car/racer. I think you'll see the RX-8 in a wide variety of roles over the years. Bone stock to fully customized (just as you now see Honda Accords, Acura Integras, Ford Mustangs, Chevy Corvettes, etc......).

I do think you'll see more RX-8s on the road than Infinti G35s. Most folks in that market will opt for the less expensive 350Z. The back seats in the G35 are token at best.

Any car can be riced and I am sure a fair number of 8's will be. I see a BMW 740 that is totally riced-out everyday

Certainly not my style but to each his own. The 8 is able to wear many hats and that is Mazda's intent -- some say compromise.

For me -- I've got the appearance package, strakes, tint, etc. and IMHO opinion my 8 looks just as classy and upscale as the Mercs, Beemers, Jags, Porsches etc. I park next to at the county club. In fact a guy came up a few weeks ago and said it looked better than the 600SEL parked next to it :D

you guys seemed to have nailed dead-on the question I was asking. You make a good point, any car can be 'riced'. If I ever see one with with those floating impression neon lights, that's where I draw the line....

Well from whare we stand the desire to add perfomace parts to the car comes from within the individual and is expressed through the base potencial of the vehicle itself. Meaning in stock trim the 8 is a great car that comes with "out of the box" star potencial, but for the enthusiest who needs to go the xtra mile and change the performance or apperence of what ever thier driving, the 8 is the new hottness. Unlocking the hidden potencial of these types of cars is our bussiness so we love it, but there's nothing wrong with keeping it stock. Anyways, who knows? You could end up deciding to add things to your car down the road. Either way you still got a great sports car.
