I aquired a set of 3" 304 S.S. exhaust tips that I want to weld onto my 3" 304 S.S. turbo xs catback tailpipes. once I cut off the existing tips and slip the new ones,what type of welding rod do I use if I only have an aceytlene-oxy rig available? will I have to have it done with a mig setup? just wondering. Thanks

 

Are you saying you have an oxy acetalyne torch? I have never heard of an oxy acetalyne welder. You can weld with the torch, but the quality of the welds are iffy and they don't tend to penetrate much.

Rule 1 - any time you weld dissimilar metals there will be corrosion.

TIG welding would be the cleanest and easiest way. You can get SS welding rods, but for small stuff they are hard to use.

 

You need to TIG weld stainless steel.
Oxy acetalyne will damage stainless.
