I got oil coming out my a*ss

So after work today i notice some oil under my car, pull forward a bit and see a pool. There was a bout .25 to .5 of fresh quart of oil on the ground.

Since i am gone sunrise to sunset, i wont get a chance to look under the car till saturday to find the leak. Any suggestions on where to start?

So many possibilities. Can you tell, more or less, where on the block the oil was coming from?
That's a lot of oil. Maybe your filter is loose or the seal on the pan failed.

As MM suggested...a loose filter or drain plug would be two possible places. Beyond that, grab a flashlight.

Have you had a local "quick lube" type place change your oil lately? Had this happen one time on a Honda I owned. Turns out they put 2 gaskets on the oil filter. When there's 2 of them, they get smashed out of the recess they are supposed to fit in, and don't seal. They claimed it must have come out of the box that way, but maybe the gasket of the old filter stuck to the block when the filter was removed.

Good news is that if you haven't had a low oil light come on, you probably didn't drive it too long with low oil and shouldn't have any damage. The RX8 low oil light actually does a good job. Fix the leak and you should be rockin'.

Put a fresh piece of cardboard under the car. This will help you locate where the leak is. When you park the car, you move around a little and that makes it impossible to localize where the leak is coming from.

im gonna clean down the existing oil today after work. I have about an hour of time between when i get home and when the sun sets. Then i'll put some cardboard down. I doubt it will leak a lot since the car hasnt been driven for a while. I have to make a run to the airport tomorrow night. After i get home ill put the cardboard back to see what i find the next time i get a chance to get under it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I remeber doing that in the past with previous cars... but forgot about it.

My friend who is flying in tomorrow night is one of the friends that helped when i installed the turbo kit.. i think ill have him look for the leak on friday while im at work. Nothing says Hawaiian Vacation like fixing the BigOOilLeak. LOL. Hopefully i can get this taken care of soon so we can cruise the island while he's here. Also if he wants to drive the car while im at work next week.. the oil fix is gonna be a must.

I'll wager a blow o-ring on an oil cooler hose, probably at the engine. $5 anyone?

not enough info to make that bet. I'll speculate its possibly a blown seal or bad fitting on the turbo.

How far did you drive it like that? And you drove it hard enough to get into boost?

i didnt drive it in boost after i noticed that leak. but that morning i was boosting on the way to work.

i keep a few quarts in the trunk, so i topped it off before going home. Plus i kept an eye on the oil pressure gauge (aftermarket, not the oem gauge)... the whole way home.

SO...

i was too beat after work to get under the car. I did look around in the engine bay and found no oil. None coming out the BOV (thank god that problem has been solved), none near the oil filter and none around the block of the engine. narrowing down the options

I just had to replace the Oil Separator on my Porsche for a similar reason - it was blowing oil into the intake and blowing huge plumes of white smoke out the tailpipe.

Different scenario and different car with you though.

i never posted the end to this story.

they oil was coming from the oil pan to turbo return feed hose. The hose was damaged from road debris. Simple fix.
