If and when I install my new 18" OEM wheels, will my TPMS light come on if I don't transfer them from my current 16" wheels?

Can mine be transfered to the "16?

 

As an additional question, the new tires on the Rims are 235/40/18, anyone know if the TPMS will fit these?

 

if you don't have any TPMS on your new wheels the light will come on. wheel size has no bearing on whether that light comes on. what will come into play is the new wheels that you get may or not be compatible with TPMS. you will have to give specific brand/model to get help knowing whether they'll transfer and fit.

 

He said "my new 18" OEM wheels" so the TPMS will fit. And the 235/40/18 tires wont be a problem.

Well I called 2 service Depts. and they told me it would cost $130 to switch the TPMS sensors from my 16s to my 18s. They also said the sensors are fragile and that in the transition, they can break. Moreover my car is a lease (have about 27 months left) so i would have to make the switch twice, costing me $260.

I think I'm going to use the electrical tape over the light solution....I just tried it and it's hardly noticeable.

Do any of you know if there is a beeping sound associated with not having the TPMS sensors on? I sure hope not!

 

if you're having a stealership do the swap, yes it will cost that much. try tirerack.com and go to the installation page:

type in your zip and it will show you those in your area and look to see how much each charges for TPMS. you'll want to call to see if they'll do it for that amount or not since they may charge that if you get tires at the location.

 

I called another dealership and they told me they would do the "swap" for $100 $25 per tire. However, being that my car is a lease, I would have to do this again when I put the 16"s back on to turn the car back in.

As long as their isn't an "beeping" sounds coming from the indicator, it looks like I'm going to arts and crafts class and slapping a electrical piece of tape over it.

 

again, why are you asking stealerships to swap? you know they'll overcharge. a tire shop would be cheaper. that all being said, if you're swapping back and forth you'll have to change the gaskets. it's up to you but the other option would be buy another set of TPMS from someone on here, slap those on, and call it a day.

you'll still have the TPMS working and can swap out without removing the tires. you can usually find a set anywhere from $100-150 on the FS boards and gives you peace of mind. one of mine wasn't working for a while and i got the malfunction light coming on until i replaced it. this is the first car i had with TPMS but i started to get used to having that peace of mind and i didn't like not having it work. i would start to hearing the tires or slight pulls in the car on interstates which were simply caused by grooves from semis but suddenly i felt the need to pul over and check my tires since i couldn't monitor them. of course i'm a little (strike that - very) neurotic too.

 

I guess that's another route I can go. However, after hearing the Tech tell me that the sensors are "very sensitive" and can easily be broken, I'm hesitant to pick some up on the aftermarket. I would hate to drop $150 for the sensors then another $75 for the install ony to have them malfunction.

I know it's a bit cynical of me, but my car is a lease, and to be honest, the TPMS while nice, is really not that important to me. I've had 7 cars before this one, and survived just fine without it.

 

i picked mine up on here. unfortunately one of them didn't work and i had to buy a new one but i'm happy to have them. there are a lot of people that don't have TPMS and are happy that way too. as i said, this is my first car that had it but i quickly became hooked.
