I need to replace My front pads as there is a high pitched squeel when the brakes are first applied.
Question: Can anyone advise me on the best make? ie EBC, Hawk, Centric...ect? I'd also like to go with drilled and slotted rotor eventually so I'll appreciate any advise on them too!

drilled rotors are a bad idea.


what do you want for pads? how is the car being used? My track pads squeal like a pig until they are warm and are brand new.

drilled rotors crack under pressure if not setup properly. It also takes away from the surface area of the rotor. You have less material to absorb the heat that is being generated.

 

If you don't mind dust - Axis Ultimates are FANTASTIC pads.

 

depends on where you buy the rotors from. cheap ebay stuff can easily crack during track use.

i like the hawk ceramic pads, got them from tirerack for about 140 shipped for all 4, no noise, low dust.

 

There's TBS on this matter [ RX8 Service Bulletin ] . Go to finish Line Web there is something in regards to squeal noise during braking. If you take it to them with that print out they should take care of it for you.

If you do a search you will notice you're not the only one with this matter.

Not to completely derail this thread, but is there a mileage limit to this TSB? Didn't see anything mentioned while reading it but, my car is an 04 with 30k miles on it. Any chance they would dismiss my break squeal to brake pad age?

 

 

ditto, get pad, quiet, low dust, and a good price.

Oh and cross drilled rotors are fine, that guy is just trying to show off his track knowledge. If you're just a normal street cruiser like most of us then drilled rotors will be perfectly fine (just get them from the proper place, like one of the forum vendors of this site.)

I would give it a try . Take in the TSB and tell them you've had this issue for quite sometime, that you feel this is the reason for your squealing brakes. You have nothing to loose.

 

I use EBC yellow stuff right now. no noise at all and low dust...
I like them more than my previous MS pads. got them for 140euros...

I didn't like my EBC reds that I had, they had good initial bite but they lasted a little longer than 1500 miles, that's inclusive of two LAPPING days, they would have lasted probably one Solo 1 event had I been competing. I can vouch for Project Mu's Taitan Kai pads and Hawk HP+, Project Mu had the longest life and is really quiet, whereas after the first solo event on HP+, they squeeled loud but their life seems really good, I didn't put a dent into them.

I swap brake pads and rotors quite a bit. I don't mind using some AutoZone OEM replacements for the street, I run Carbotech XP-8's for track

 

Yup it's called the warranty. 4 years or 50K miles. You still have time if you act quickly.

No they won't dismiss it. They have a TSB for it and a replacement brake pad part number.
