Smoked Tail Lights....

jus got them in today and it stopped raining long enough for me to put them in and snap a few pics. i didnt do it myself and since i planned on buying a new set to fix my fogging tails, i found these on ebay and took the risk and bought them. they look great in person. one of the best painted tail jobs i seen, super glossy and no rough spots, just a few bubbles on the side but no big deal.

so far i love em. at night they look nice, light output is still decent...the turnsignal can still reflect off my neighbors house accross the street.

now i have a big problem tho, i dropped my reverse light and harness on the floor which broke the bulb. an me bein a total dumb *** i threw away the bulb still atached to the harness....here is the funny part. this morning (prior to install) i scooped a dead cat that was splatered on the street and was nice enough to toss it in my garbage can....an hour after throwin away the harness i got the replacement bulb and thought "wow i jus threw the harness away"....well after opening the trash can i was bum rushed by the smell of dead carcas and last nights dinner (dont ask which smelled worse) and almost threw up....now my question is....should i just be a man and dig in there to get the harness out or is a replacement from the stealership be cheap enough to not go in the trash???? btw monday was trash day so i would have to dig down to the bottom of a 50 gallon trash bucket.

they look great!!!!!!!!!!!! is it a film? post a link to the ebay sail!!!!

the harness will probly be overpriced, if you have the money(judging by your kickass driveway you do) just buy a new one.

they look really good though.

Those look really nice magik especially on your black. Only problem is I'd hate to be on 95 with those and all of a sudden have to brake. The way people drive down here I'd probably be rear ended cause they wouldn't see the brake lights in time. Are you going to smoke the middle brake light too?

Another thing is, putting black on your tails is illegal as hell down here in Florida but hopefully you don't get caught and forced to remove them. Either way good job. Which seller did you find those from?

On the first RX-8 that I owned, I had to replace my right tail light cause someone hit me from the back. I think I kept the damaged tail, which only had shattered glass damage. The harnesses and reverse light and everything else were all in tact though. If I can figure out where I stored it I'll let you know

*cough cough, moms driveway, cough cough* he he

btw, the pic with the light reflection, the brake lights werent off, all lights were off, that was a reflection from the camera flash....i think that pic came out nice as hell besides the glowing plate. but at night with the lights on the tails look pretty much the same. i wish it was an LED housing tho. im thinking of doin the brake light as well but with film instead of paint. paranoia attack but ridin home tonight i had a cop behind me and i was worried i would get roped cause of the tails cause he kept pullin close to me and falling back for several miniutes which made me nervous...not to mention i have 5% tint too. knock on wood i hope i get no trouble.

it is not a film, it is from what i see paint, not sure what kind tho but it def is nice paint. prob night shades. it is fairly thick too so and has a hard finish which i hope will be durable and wont chip and fade. they did a good job. this was the only set he had, the sale said it was a custom set that was made for an owner who never picked them up or somethin like that. i looked at his other "for sales" and no offense but he seems to be a collector of junk and just sells them. he had tons of scrap parts. ill ask in the morning if he wants to do more.

now for the harness i will attempt one more time before work and before the sun beats on that can....i swear u have no idea how bad that thing stinks. i felt like i needed to grab some smelling salts to burn that stench out of my nostrills. im hoping a harness is no more than 10-15 bux...otherwise ill be riding round with one reverse light for a while lol.

well jerky i kno all too well bout our s fl drivers....i guess its a risk im gonna take. i havent gotten a chance to see how well the brake lights shine from 5-6 car lengths back....im gonna have to check that out. safety is more impoortant than coolness...btw if you do find the harness shoot me a pm on how much you would like for it.

i posted pics cause before buying the lights i did a search and wasnt satisfied with the pics i found....they werent what i was lookin for so i decided might as well post a few pics for others who were thinkin bout it. ill snap a few night shots and better day shots when the weather gets better.

You might want to consider the led conversion bulbs the rx8strakes.com sells. They look very bright and would probably compensate nicely for the smoke. Kinda pricey though.

thanx guys...after seeing them on a fully sunny day i admit they are quite dark...maybe a lil too dark. but i still love them tho...ill look into the led conversion lights as mentioned. i would like the instant on/off effect led's have, plus the extra brightness would be good.

btw the garbage smelled bad enough from the outside that i didnt even attempt to open it. i guess i will just head to the stealership to a get raped on a new harness.

the tigray looks nice, i like the headlights but may not be a route i can do, the entire car would be blacked out, i plan to shave the mazda and "M" emblem in the back and just leave the rx8. i once found gun metal emblems and if i can find the link again ill get those instead of the chrome.

So , did you dig through the trash? That would suck if you dug through it and didnt find it , then had to buy another one and only costed like a dollar lol.
...Nevermind , you didnt even go through it.....wuss j/k , you can always ask the garbage man to look for it for you or something.

that trash smelled so bad that even after it was dumped the smell could still be smelled from outside the can so i made my own mixture of pine-sol, clorox and one of those blue cakes u put in the toilet tanks, mixed it in a bucket and just dumped it in there to sanitize it. it smells better now and takin out the trash is less of a chore

if i had the garbage man dig in there for me he would have killed me lol, i woulda had to pay him a lil tip anyway...plus we have those automatic trucks with the arm that picks up the trash.

well im headin to the dealership today for the harness and hopefully get my car looked over just for maintainace issues or possible problems...plus any mazda gets to go through the autowash for free.
