i just ordered a set of tein s-techs for $150...and called a local place that does all sorts of aftermarket installs and was quoted $5-600 to get the install done! is this normal?? I figured that the price of installation wouldn't exceed $200...am I just ignorant or am I clearly going to the wrong shop? Also, any suggestions of where to go in northeast Philadelphia? Thanks.

 

takes about 3.5-5 hours with air tools, no breaks and getting straight to business. could take 6+ hours if a novice is doing it without air tools. depends on how much they charge for labor. But it seems steep.

But they do have to:

remove wheels, unbolt shock/spring assembly from control arms etc, disassemble spring/shock combo, reassemble with new springs, reinstall, repeat.

Then of course, you need an alignment because you unbolted the control arms. So if they are factoring in the necessary alignment it becomes a bit more reasonable.

 

Or you can get in touch with your fellow owners in your region and offer some beers.

 

keep checking around. they should go from 100-200 w/o an alignment.

 

That price is wack. A local shop charged $100 to install my coilovers.

 

I think i charged like $75-$100 and that included the spring compressor rental.

 

When I initially had my Eibachs put on I paid $250. I watched the process and decided to do it myself when changing the shocks to Koni's....its not that hard to do (and I don't have air tools). If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, do it yourself (there is alot of information in this forum in the do it yourself section that really helps). IMO the rears are easier than the fronts so start there. You will need a spring compressor though. I bought one from Murrays for less than $30.

100-200 tops if you pay somebody, and don't get an aligment right away, drive around a while, let things settle in, then get one. If you do it yourself, it's a lot of work, but the most important thing is rent a spring compressor and see if you can't get someone to help you with it.

 

I've always done my own suspension work. If you have a garage or know of someone that can help, it's a great learning process and satisfaction knowing you did it yourself.

 

Both race shops in my area quoted me $350-400 to install only shocks (almost the same as only installing springs because it requires disassembling the shock). One of the local car guys did it instead for $180.

Installing complete coilovers is cheaper since you don't need a spring compressor and no need to dissemble the shock.
