Mazdaspeed CAI
Mazdaspeed CAI
Does anyone on here have the Mazdaspeed CAI installed? I got mine put on last night and I'm still formulating an opinion on whether I like it or not. Just looking for some other viewpoints.
Thanks,
Thanks,

I love it!!
I went to one of the meets and Road Cone and qtwre wanted to see the difference in sound. When we were done I went for a drive in his car and the sound was much softer...
It makes the car sound more like a race car..
Roarrrr...

I bought my 8 approx. 5 weeks ago, so I got used to it with the stock intake while they ordered in the MS CAI. My opinion so far: the sound is definitely better. The engine sounds more aggresive under load but is still near silent when cruising. I did notice a slight increase in noise at highway speed (120km), but nothing serious. With regards to power, the car feels like it lost some of the low end torque (not that there was much to begin with, j/k), although it is much smoother at low revs (I.E. when creeping through traffic on the 401).
I got the MS CAI for free with the car so I figured I should at least try it out with it on to see if I like it, and so far so good.
Thanks for everyone's input.

it depends whether the stock intake piping is restrictive or not. That's all. Otherwise it's placebo performance. I haven't removed the rx8's intake so hard to tell.
Careful with K&N as those basically allow more dust to get in. I used to have all these things, but I've since then switched back to stock paper filters.

I got mine installed at the dealer on Saturday morning. It sounds pretty loud under load, but I think the car feels a tad more responsive or a little faster, but its hard to tell. The one thing is for sure is that little lag at 6K under full throttle doesn't seem to be there. When driving normal, the car sounds normal but a little more smooth somehow. The car kinda feels brand new again.
HOWEVER, I think I am not doing to good on gas mileage since I got it installed. Not sure if its me booting it more often to hear my investment or it simply more air is causing more gas to be used. I'll keep my eye on it.

I noticed my mileage has dropped slightly. I am still keeping the revs down but I could be dipping into the throttle a little bit more.
Shifts below 4500 are definitely a lot smoother with the intake on.
I took mine into the dealership today and they said one of the accompanying hoses has a small leak in it so they ordered a new one in. Should be there tomorrow.

My mileage is getting better with every click. I can get about 420 on a tank on the highway. This is easily 20kms better than the 04. Around town mileage still sucks but I didn't buy the car for mileage.

There's a big version of the ad, I swear they photoshop it to make those wheels grey looking! They aren't even remotely grey in real life as shown in your photos!!!
BTW, new financing rate for 60 mo is 3.9%. They really want to move this car now.

FYI I've had 2 diff. intakes on my old '05. One was the K&N version 2 and the other was the MS Intake. The K&N sucked *** and the MS intake really didn't do much either. IMO, the only reason you should put an INtake on this car is if you want the sound. Otherwise, it was a big waste of $$$. I have an 06 right now and stock everything. I will gladly keep it this way till my warranty is up. I will then go the turbo route.
