New To Rotary...

Hi all, I recently purchased a 2004 RX-8 6-Speed; however, this is not my 1st Mazda. I also own a 1995 MX-6 LS 5 Speed, and have owned that since I got my license over 4 years ago. I have many mods done to the 6, and have done them all by myself, or with help of friends. I spent many hours researching that car, and learned a great deal of info. I haven't done too much research on the 8, or the rotary engine YET. I do plan to research this car as much as I can. I just noticed a slight ticking noise coming from the engine of the RX-8. I know that in a conventional piston engine, a ticking noise can be from low oil levels, a bad lifter or rocker arm, but I am unsure as to what the ticking noise can be inside of the rotary. I just changed the oil in the RX-8, so I know the ticking noise isn't from low oil levels. The ticking noise was present before the oil change but after I purchased the vehicle. I am in the middle of final exam prep and research papers so any help would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks in advance!

It could be one of the accessories like the alternator or water pump, or it could be the drive belt itself. If it has cracked out some of the "v" sections it will make a ticking sound. Or, it could be the air pump or something rattling.
