'04 has the following:

1) One fewer year of warranty.
2) First model year; prone to flooding and other mechanical issues.

That's it, really, for me. The old adage of "never buy the first year of any model" is ingrained in me, I guess.

Well you have me on the warranty issue I guess but I'm not aware of any changes to the 05 that this car hasn't had done under warranty. Such as bigger battery, PCM relfashes, new cat and plugs.

Anyone help me out here?

the new battery, PCM reflashes, and plugs can/should be updated so that there wouldn't be a difference b/w '04 and '05s other than an extra year of warranty and black washer reservoir.

i guess you might want to check the inservice date for warranty. i just bout an 04 but the inservice date wasnt until summer 05 so i still have 2 years 3 mons on the warranty. Good enough for me.

for the price you are getting on this you could always go go an extended after market warranty up to 100,000 miles.

Don't wish to hijack your thread, but I figure I'm giving you a free bump.

How does one obtain the extended warranty? Can this be added on anytime before the factory warranty expires? Through the dealer or MOA?

I purchased an extended warranty on my current vehicle ('00 Ranger) through the dealer. IMO it was a waste of money because they classified so much as "wear and tear".

An example: my friend had an extended factory warranty on his '03 350z and they wouldn't repair a short in his stereo because it was "normal wear and tear".

I will try to call Mazda to clarify the details. I was offered the extened warranty when I purchased the vehicle but passed.

I think comparing this to a Ford or Nissan warranty is a waste of time. Each is it's own animal.

There are also usually different levels of coverage.

They were both extended warranties done through a third party - not through the manufacturer. So they may be comparable to what someone would be buying.

I still think this is a pretty good deal, but I'm not a fan of the black/tan interior (didn't see it initially). Good luck selling it.

I'm going to be selling a car soon. If you still have it around in a month or so, I'd be interested. I would imagine that you are trying to get rid of it before than though. Good Luck with it, I really like the black on black interior, but for that price you should have some interest. That's a good deal on a nice 8.

Will do, its everything I want other then the interior color, but I could live with that. I'll let you know when I get things together. I'm in the process of moving to the DC area.
