Painted my Engine Bay

So I wanted to spice up my engine bay. The intake & other things have already been painted... but I wanted something to be seen when the hood is first opened.

I did the cross member, and then the engine cover. Engine cover was a complete pain in the ****. In the end though, it turned out good (I think). To each his own! =)

Sorry for the quality of pics - took at night w/ camera phone

Thanks all for the replies.

As for the mazda logo, I opted to leave it black, to make it 'pop' from the cover. It's actually a one peice (aluminum) part. Filling it in would be difficult, unless you are a great model painter... =)

looks really good, I was thinking about painting the engine cover and hanging it on my wall. (I decided I didn't like all the plastic in the bay once I put in the intake) I like the way you did that.

looks great! i never considered painting the covers.

speakin as a n00b, what process was involved in getting that done? did you just use regular household paint/enamel? airbrush? any sanding beforehand? any post-processing to preserve the finish?

I've recieved some inquiries on how-to's.

The paint I used is a spray paint, that you can typically find at your local auto-zone.

Duplicolor Metalcast
http://www.duplicolor.com/products/metalcast.html

Make sure you get the ground coat as well as the color of your choice.

If you wish to do just the center of the cover, it's a major pain because I couldn't get any tape to stick to it. So I covered what I didn't want painted the best I could... and carefully removed any overspray with Goof Off (at any Home Depot).

Nice and the right touch of blue. Get a better camera though to show it off on here!

Steakboy42-too much red in that engine bay for me.

Cool Blue Bay

Had some autobody students looking to learn some new things- Got the engine Bay painted and bumper painted.

It's nice and easy to keep clean.

What do you think, too much blue?
