Got bored today and headed to the mountains and down towards Alamogordo. A few shots from the trek.. You can see a sliver of white sands off to the upper left of the first pic.

That area coming down from Cloudcroft and HighRolls is a great natural terrain transition point as you pop out of the tunnel. I get bored living in the desert in Artesia and drive West 100 miles into the mountains to play on the curvy roads a bit, and then relax a while and take in the scenery.

....galaxy grey se complete with 18" snows!! It still looks ok with the aftermarket wheels and snows, but the pirelli wintersports are definitely not as crisp as the stock tires in the corners.

Where are you in Texas? Texas is a big state with lots of diverse terrain. I drive 90 miles south-southwest of Artesia NM into Texas towards ElPaso and some of the most dramatic mountains and hiking trails located close by in Guadalupe State Park which is in Texas. Stunning scenery with trails that cling to sides of mountains and massive cliffs you would not expect to find in Texas or New Mexico. Truly worth a visit. I hear Big Bend national park in Texas is very similar if not more intense.... .

I go all around with my dads offroad club in Texas and have yet to see scenery like that. I have been to Big Bend twice and to be honest it is lame in camparison to other places I have been. When I was a kid we drove from Vermont to L.A. I have been to all the major sites (rockies, grand canyon, painted desert, etc.) in the U.S. and it was great.

 

I haven't driven the RX8 down to the Guadalupes yet, but I plan on making the trek soon as the weather continues to improve. I get a little uncomfortable solo hiking in the mountains in the winter when low traffic seems like an invite to mountain lions when you are the only one out there.... .
