Anyone around Eugene?
I am looking for fellow RX8 people around Eugene, to talk with, and try to learn a bit more about the. I jsut got one, I have the awesome RX8 book, but I havent read it all yet. but jsut want to see whats going on. Let me know Matt
Key points about the 8:
--Initial warm up should be about 2 min. MAX..anymore, and you are just wasting gas
--Driving short distances, when at your destination, rev to 4K, then turn off engine immediately..doing so will flush out the gas in the chamber
--Change your transmission & differential oil to synthetic (Royal Purple/Redline); huge difference in feel of the MT
--Redline (over 8K), the car when engine is properly warm (15 min.), and try to do this either often or at least once a week to help reduce carbon build-up in the chamber from occurring
--Use top-tier gasoline only!! I primarily use Shell..others are Chevron or 76..
--Carry 1 qrt of oil (5w20) with you in the trunk in the event you need it since our car drinks it (1/4 - 1/2 qrt per 1000 miles)
Other than that, use this website to get other useful info!! BUT, I highly stress you do the mesh thing as soon as you can before you do any type of spirited driving...you might be one of the unlucky fellow who has to shell out $500 to fix something that should of been properly protected in the 1st place by Mazda!! Oil cooler mesh is optional..

If you completely remove the front..yes..I suppose it would be..but..I was lazy and did it the easy way :p Zip ties, jack up front of car, get underneath and remove the tray, slide my arm in, place the gutter mesh, zip tied one end, then the other, and in the middle. About 2 hr. job for 1st time :p Cost is $3 for gutter mesh, and 2 hr. of my time vs. $300-400? Didn't do a complete job on the oil cooler though..
Ohh..you going all out on it then :p THAT will require you to take out your front bumper..yup..will look nice though
Bought splash guards (front and rear), swapped out summer tires for all-season (due to wonderful Willamette Valley weather), after-market (oversea even) strakes, tinted my front lens (anti-laser coat), and coming up, changing my heavy stock flywheel to MS!! If you plan to do that in the near future, Rosenthal Mazda is the place!! Got it on special for $460, then have it installed by your local dealer for $380...Can't wait...RPM is going to feel nice...won't be as hard-core as some of the other 8 owners
Those guys are going nitro, and stuff..
Hmm..if your front bumper isn't too thrash, you can put the 3M clear-bra to protect it..worth the $$..you can probably do the top of the hood yourself, but the other stuff..pro would be better..our 8 has too much curves
Besides that..after another 40K or so, I'll switch out my coils to aftermarket..my 8 will look like a normal flavor one, but under the hood, it can swing with the big boys
HAH!! Now..if I only had the $$ to do the track..an extra set of wheels & summer tires would be very nice...

Ya there is a perfect road over here. unfortunatley its not always the safest.
Can you post a pic of the front spash guard, I have the appearance package but want to add the front splash guard. I have also thougth about getting something for my head lights might start with one of those cheap kits off ebay. another thing i cant wait to do is repaint my calipers, and the inner part of the discs. That way they dont show signs of rust like most other 04 and 05 RX8s out there.

I would highly recommend getting the front splash guards with your appearance package. Adding it gives the 8 a nice balance..not to mention, protect your paint..BTW, since you have the side skirt..good idea to 3M that too :p

Yup..know what you mean..I paid 3K over what I should of..spur of the moment purchase..that would of paid for all of my upgrades that I would want on this car: suspension, sway bars, exhaust...
But, like you and most other 8 owners..we are strapped for $$..so..one project at a time
Save up man..
