About to purchase my first rx8

Not sure if this is the right forum or not, if not sorry. But besides that--

Red 04 MT with 18k miles. It has Heated black leather seats. It also has a sun roof. ( What package would this be?) They are asking $19900, so im sure i could talk them down a bit. thx

Not sure what part of the country you're in, but....

I bought my 2004 just a few months ago with 17K miles, fully loaded (only lacking the "Aero" package, I believe?). VR with two-tone interior, GT, navigation, spare tire kit. Needed new rear tires and I paid $19K even. The low miles and navigation were big boosts to me. Most 2004's in my area (PA) with normal mileage (30-35K, say) and lacking navigation would fetch around $17,500-ish.

so if i talked him down to around 17000, it wouldnt be too bad of a deal i guess? I drove around town all day to try to compare it to something, i found 1 other rx8 in town and it was silver so i didnt even look at it. There are tons of 2007's on the mazda lot for around 28-33 asking prices. I think the only thing the car is missing is the nav?

you're looking at a GT so with those miles and the fact it's at a dealership as opposed to private party, you could probably talk them down to around $18K or maybe even $17.5K. i was going to question your motives for even buying an rx-8 since you don't seem to have done much research but to each their own. not everyone has to be a rotary nut i suppose. just do yourself a favor and do some searching on the car so you don't become another whiner complaining about bad mpg, flooding, or oil consumption. oh yeah, make sure the TSBs and flashes have been taken care of. if they want to seal the deal they'll take care of it for you.

C'mon man, use some common sense. Just because you've had a bad experience does not mean 9 out of 10 people aren't happy with their car and experience with Mazda.

on a serious note, the Rx8 is one car you need to research before you buy. test driving it is only one aspect,.....so spend some time and peruse these forums. read the pro's and con's and see if in balance the car is for you.

Test drive is the major aspect.

My research consisted of

1. Discovering it in Motor Trend's annual "all the cars" issue

2. Cross-checking Consumer Reports similar issue

3. Looking up a few reviews on-line

4. Going through the "build your own" stuff on Mazda's web site

5. Visiting a dealer and test driving one.

After the test drive, all else became background detail. If it even mattered.

IMHO, this forum is a great place for info after you have one. But if you don't have one, it would scare you off.

well i posted from experience. had i researched more, im pretty sure i wouldn't have bought one. so I have to disagree that "Test drive is the major aspect".

Yeah, thank god I did, I almost came out of a dealership with an auto. Even so, the auto was so impressive on the test drive for it's smooth ride, handling and feel.

You might want to look at the owner satisfaction survey: 91% of owners are satisfied, 6% are dissatisfied. The percentage of people highly satisfied is 74%.

See https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=Owner .

$17k is not a bad deal, you can probably get a couple hundred more off though.
