Someone please delete this thread 'cause I'm absolutely sick and tired of being flamed on for trying to sell my car.

Good luck ... pics and your location might be a bit helpful!

(BTW, buying a $1000 beater car for the winter might be cheaper for ya - you'll take way more of a hit if you sell this ... especially to a dealer)

If you post your location, it will help.

FYI, winter tires make a huge difference when driving in the snow.

You just got it a month ago and you are going to trade it in on a 3? Why? You are going to take a huge hit on this. The dealer is going to rape you.

I know I know. I'm not going straight to the dealer yet. They're a last resort.

Why don't you just get some decent winter tires and enjoy the car you have?

I don't know, do you think that'll do the trick?

Edit: We just got dumped on over the last 3 or 4 days and there's at least a foot of snow on the ground...

you should really do some reading about snow tires on this forum before you sell it. the conclusion you'll come too is that they are not an option. check the wheels and tires subforum.

It really didn't seem to me that snow tires would help at all.

Dude, you need to get snow tires. Call up Tire Rack and talk to them. You will spend $700 dollars and save thousands. I live in Elkhart, about 1-1/2 hours south of you and drive 40 miles everyday. My 8 does fine.

You really need to do your research before buying a car.

Just FYI, I have driven thru two small blizzards in the last three years and my 8 did fine. I get a lot of the same lake effect you get so I know what you're talking about.

The 50/50 weight distribution and low torque actually make this car a killer snow machine.

Just remember. It's all about tires. If you bought an Audi Quattro and put summer tires on it, you'd get nowhere in a snow storm. Don't send your 8 out in the snow wearing sandals!

Oh BTW, if you do get that Mazdaspeed 3, beware. Those come with summer tires also (Bridgestone RE050A) and you won't get much farther.

I'm still thinking. I might instead get a wheel and tire package from tirerack.com instead.

Now you're talking. I used my OEM wheels for my winter wheels and bought new summer wheels. That's one option.

I highly recommend the Pirelli 240 Snowsport. Tire Rack carries them and unless you have a really reputable tire service center up there I recommend you have them install them as they have touchless equipment.

Or just look out the window and realize it snows there before buying the car.

It's not like I don't know it snows here or anything. It's just that it really hasn't been that bad up till now. And last year was pretty good too.

I'm with Joel on this one. The Mazda 3 is not going to do a bit better in the snow till it gets snow tires either. You would still be in the same predicament, but out a whole lot more money.

I don't know. You guys have to understand that we're getting absolutely covered with snow here and the roads are basically iced over. I know a lot of people with S10's at my school and they're forced to throw in hundreds of pounds of weights into their beds to stop from fishtailing. I'm thinking about the MS3 still. I might go and get an STi...
