Theres not much too see. It mounts to a cross member between the rear strut towers. I can take pictures of it tomorrow for you.

Great, thanks... I wasn't sure how much of the space it takes up... doesn't look too bad.

Cool Some things you just find out ...

With the tire kit install, you can put one full shopping cart worth of items in the trunk.

I would not have believed it unless I did it, but the trunk is very deep, a lot deeper then you think. And also there is a little space below the tire on the sides that you can put stuff too.

I thought they put spare tire in that deep whole in the truck where it seems like it's actually missing one... I guess I was wrong...

Yep... looks like a bonus strut tower brace :D
Not bad... I'm wondering how stiff the whole assembly is.

Question

Does the spare tire kit = spare tire mounting kit?

basically... does the 'kit' you order with your car come with a spare tire, or is it jus tthe mounting kit and spare tire sold separately?

If the latter, how much would the spare tire/wheel cost?

They are separate. The spare tire mounting kit comes with some foam inflation device thing ??

The kit and the spare tire cost an extra $450 or so.

I'm an avid fisherman and thought I'd have to keep taking the beater (Lincoln Towncar) to go fishing since all I have are 1pc rods. Even with the spare tire kit, I was able to fit 3x 6'6" 1pc rods in my rx-8 with the spare tire kit in place. I unzip the cover, feed my rods through the spokes of the spare, and into the cabin. If there's a pasenger... too bad... I'm GOING FISHIN!!!!

Love driving the 8 to the lakes... lots of twisty roads. hmmmmmm

Has anyone compared the size of the RX-8 spare to an FD RX-7's spare? it looks like they used the same Enkei rim.
