Engine Coolant

I checked the coolant level yesterday and found that it is at the L mark when the engine is cold. But when I check the coolant level again when the engine is warmed up, the coolant level is between the F and L mark. So do I take reference when the engine is cold or warmed up? If I need to take reference when the engine is cold, that means I'll have to top up distilled water to near F mark rite? Btw...my 8 is only 4 mths old...is this normal?

Normally the coolant will reach a stable level where if you keep on adding it, it still will reduced.......

Mine is PI...so I cannot get the FL22 coolant. But at this stage, I can saftely add distilled water to the F mark rite? Would the ratio of the coolant and water be off?

I read from the forum that coolant leaking to the engine will cause white exhaust smoke...I see some white smoke coming from the exhaust. Is this normal? I cannot comprehen that a 4 mth old car's coolant is at low now.

you mean white smoke when you 1st start up the car or even when after the car been warm up and brought out?

if it gives out white smoke all the time, you should bring it back to your PI dealer...4mths old should still be under PI warranty

when the exhaust pipes are cold you get water vapour. it shows that there is complete combustion. the reason why it only happens when the engine is cold is due to the exhaust pipes are cold as well that is why you can see vapors coming out, when the whole exhaust pipes heats up to super hot, the vapors are really very tiny vapor droplets that you can no longer see.

Anyway just add watoson's distilled water to bring the level up. I still have half a 1.8L bottle with me. just topped mine up and drank some water, thats why half left. haha.

Very simple...... Just burn a small amount of oil and see!!!!! If coolant can get to your combustion or exhaust, better start to rebuilt your engine becos water seal was broken....

Sometimes it's becos of slight flooding in engine, so you'll see white smoke during the start up....... As long as it's not 'beh yan' all the way, it's alright...

thats fine. there is prob some amount of soot in the pipe as the renesis is rather rich in Air fuel ratio.
