Weird noise when boosting w/GReddy kit?

What is that screeching noise I hear when I boost? I used to hear it on my AT RX8 but very light... Is that something to do with that mod that air goes through some heating process???

only thing i hear when there's positive manifold pressure is "ppssshhhhhhh" and then blow off valve

what does your screeching noise sound like? Anything you can compare it to?

First, stop boosting.

Second, read this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/more-marbles-can-observations-93836/

Third, search for "marbles in a can"

Fourth, stop boosting.

Fifth, get your car tuned.

lol i've never heard of anyone that doesnt know what detonation sounds like refer to it as sounding like marbles in a can

i always just said it sounds like pure death. stop boosting immediately and get a tune (and ditch the emanage for something else). you are very close to a blown motor

It depends on how severe it is. If light, then it does somewhat sounds like the rattling of ***** in a can. If you hear bzzzz it is VERY BAD!!!

lol

I got the 'buzz' version one time when my wastegate actuator hose came off! I must have boosted close to 20psi. The pinging was awful! I heard the screaching noise that time - it was me screaching in horror!

I got it once when I was running a 75 hp shot on Zex nitrous Kit with stock ECU, trying to spank am m3. Summer, 95 degrees outside... You get the idea...
It started OK, but around 6K in 3rd gear it pinged so suddenly and so loud that the cell came on and the engine lost power temporarily. For a couple of secs. I almost **** my pants. My first thought was: **** my wife's gonna kill me. Bzzzzz is the worst sound on earth.

First of all, if you aint helping don't post.

Second, I am running fat (which is RICH, 10-11 on Wideband) Will running rich detonate also?

Third, no CEL light has came on.

Fourth, read First again.

First of all, if you don't understand help when you see it, don't complain.

Second, fuel will only cool so much. Detonation is about ignition timing, not A/F.
So, yes you can ping even with a 9:1 A/F.

Third, the CEL is not your friend. It is there for Mazda and the EPA. Don't rely on it for anything.

Fourth, chill.

What are your other mods? I'm pretty sure the EMU was tuned on a car that was otherwise stock (no exhaust mods). If you allow more airflow then you get more air in the engine at equal boost levels. That means the car needs to be tuned.

The kit is brand new, it's the eManage blue. I installed the kit without the exhaust mod, stock stock stock and it was very rich and it did the noise anyways..
My observation is... on 5th gear and 4k RPM I can speed up and boost 6 psi and no noise but on 2nd gear and at 6k RPM it does it.... I'm starting to believe it could be that HEATER COIL VALVE(?)...

Thanks for not making fun of my problem and trying to help...which is what others don't see... Why would you make fun of someone trying to explain a problem.... anyways, back to the subject:

on 1st gear it doesnt do it until it boosts on that first moment where it boost high because I haven't done the FIX #2.

second only if I am high RPM from 1st and shifting to 2nd boosting good.

third very rarely I hear it.... because the car RPM's come up slowly and maybe the valve is not affected unless it comes from low RPM to high in a fast pace???

Anyways, just FYI I am running 10 to 11 on A/F and I haven't touched timming yet. Boosting the stock PSI of the kit but Wastegate is picking signal on the intake manifold (without FIX # 2)

I am starting to believe it could be the HEATER CORE VALVE, and after reading on SEARCH where someone with 2004 took the 8 in for same valve bad and placed a 2006 in and started the noise, maybe it's a NEW RECALL comming out.... 2006 has bad HEATER CORE VALVES???

It's done the noise for 2k miles now once in a while and the car still runs awesome, starts right up (i know bad compression makes car start after a second or 2 of cranking...) and it doesn't smoke at all... and when the noise comes it doesnt loose power...

I don't see how a heater core valve is RPM related. You haven't tuned your car yet so that should be your first priority.

From My experience, there is neither power loss, nor cell on detonation unless it pings so hard that you get scared. That knock sensor is not doing too god of a job. If the engine starts knocking slightly, and you don't know what detonation sounds like, you'll never know. It'll just destroy your seals little by little.

m4f1050 Dude, you've already invested money into the Greddy kit so don't be cheap now, or you'll pay a ton more later. Get rid of the Emanage Blue before it kills your engine and get a decent engine management (Ideally Interceptor-X) and get the car tuned. Until you've done that, don't even think about boosting.

I agree wholeheartedly. Replacing an engine would be hella expensive.

The knock sensor is a piece of ****. It does nothing. Also, you'll never get the flashing CEL due to pinging. The ECU just retards the timing and does not activate the CEL at all. Of course, since the knock sensor doesn't work in reality, the pinging just continues unabated.

Tuning eManage on RX-8

Ok, doing fix #2 and #3 (which involves the cutting of the 2 wires and loading this map)...

I live in Orlando, FL, how is elevation and baro going to affect me? Will your map work good for me? Where can I take it to get it tuned that knows about rotaries, I know Mazda here don't mess with that stuff... Take it to Miami (Pettit?)

I went to CFT (central florida turbo) and they told me to drop the eManage and get a Microtech, or to add 1 or 2 injectors on the intake tube after the I/C and before the plastic intake and then tune the eManage(???) that it tends to lean out.

Interceptor-X is basically a Microtech, so I suppose we all agree with them.

wouldn't getting colder plugs help pull back timing too.
