Can I go 245 wide on OEM 18's?

Hey Guys,

I wanted to put a wider tire on my OEM 18's. Wondering if 245/45/18 will be okay?

thanks for the help in advance!

yea it will fit, but you will find more choices and it will be cheaper if you go 245/40. Most people here go 245/40.

245/40/18 is a very popular upsizing option for the stock wheels, and your speedometer will only be about .5mph off from the stock tire's diameter

If 245's will fit on the stock wheels, will that be too skinny for 18x8.5? i'm ordering some enkei RP03's tomorrow and i want to make sure i get the right size. should i just go with 255's???

My thoughts -- I used 245s on my 18X8 OEM wheels this summer and found that I could not get the all the tire on the road at track events and wonder if squeezing them onto the OEM wheels caused that. I know there is a lot to that but my feeling is that 8.5" wheels might actually help the tires to spread and 'breathe' so you can use all the tread...Therefore, 255s on the 8.5" wheels might also squeeze them...

i'm actually gonna go back down to 225/45/18 when these 245 RT615's wear out by this spring, I lost 1mpg on average in fuel efficiency as result of using wider (and probably heavier) tires than stock specifications, and I'd like to get that 1mpg back lol

The mph will be off by ~2%. In other words, when the speedometer reads 60 mph, you will actually be travelling ~58.8 mph and, when the speedometer reads 100 mph, you will actually be travelling ~98 mph, etc.

Got the Kumho Ecsta ASX (all-season): $85/tire vs. $119/tire. Was thinking about the Continentals..they were $125/tire...but...@$40/tire difference..chose the Kumho..afterall, they are only all-season..so performance-wise, won't be that much difference to justify going with the 245..

Tirerack.com

Actually, they will be $95/tire once America Tire/Les Schwab match price. Otherwise, if you try to buy locally, they are normally $120 or so/tire. For the NW environment, all season makes so much more sense than summer. If only I was rich....heh!

You got 225's though didn't you? I got 245's through TireRack, I think they were $119. Now that I think about it, I did, however, send in the $40 rebate... did you?

Kumho Rebate expires 12-31-06

Good news!!! The Kumho Xpress Yourself Giveaway offer is still good until 12-31-06!! The offer is for free sunglasses or headphones or a $40 Rebate. Sneaky.. they are "giving away" a rebate

You just have to submit it within 30 days of buying certain tires. It doesn't show up on the TireRack or Kumho sites anymore though...

You need to print out the rebate form and mail it with a copy of your receipt - see PDF file below.

Forty bucks back!!!
