RX8store hi-flow cat vs. RP supercat
RX8store hi-flow cat vs. RP supercat
I've been entertaining the idea of purchasing a hi-flow cat and I am torn between the two. The supercat seems to be the most popular choice among people here but there are the couple of cases where the supercat essentially died at 10,000 miles of use. Information is sparse concerning the rx8store's hi-flow cat, but it does have a slightly lower price tag swaying me a bit. Both are metallic which theoretically means they should be more durable than the stock ceramic cat. Can anyone who actually owns either product give me some feedback? Aside from the performance gains, what concerns do you have about the products? I especially need feedback from the rx8store cat owners as information in the forums is close to nil. Also, one more thing. Is rotary performance a reliable vendor as far as communication and prompt shipping? Not to trash the rx8store or anything, but they were a little sluggish in communicating with me when I ordered my rb duct. Thanks guys.
There have been mixed reviews on the supercat as far as communication. I heard some say they were excellent and some say not so much. If you do anything, call them. They will respond much more thourghly than e-mail. The volume of e-mail they get is enormous and the phone is much quicker/reliable/better.

No cels and sounds the same as day one. Overall, a pretty good product. I will buy another if this one ever goes out.

Z,
Not many. Maybe a couple hundred at most. It needs the hanger because it is resting on one of the cross bars. Jason said he'll take care of that for me.
C,
I'm very familiar with the RP but unfortunately I haven't heard the RP in person but I can't imagine that there is much of a difference in their respective sounds. I paired mine up with the RB exhaust and it sounds fantastic. Many others on the forum have the RP + RB exhaust and they have all spoken the same praises of the combo.

Thanks for your replies. I think I may be leaning towards the rx8store cat because of the store's close proximity to Lexington, and the slight price advantage.

I see there is a location to refit the O2 sensor on the rx8store cat like the supercat. One more question for you success: were you able to reuse the stock bolts and such? If not, how much did the hardware run you?

The hanger was needed in my case but it's not necessarily the case for everyone. Some aren't running the hanger and everything is fine. No rattles.
I was with them for the installation of everything but I have no idea if they reused gaskets and bolts or used new ones. I didn't pay that close attention, unfortunately.
If you driveup from KY. let me know and I'll stop by to say hi. Maybe get some other folks together as well.
Good luck with your choice either way.
My RP lasted about 8,000 miles before the CEL light would stay on and never go off.
I'm going to the dealer to get my oil changed and my CEL cleared and then to get my car inspected next week so we will see if I can pass emissions.
My experience with the RP is pretty negative. It is a great concept but pretty poorly implemented. First off, it needs the $%(^ing hanger and who ever designed it without it was dreaming. Without the center hanger, the exhaust pipe goes about 9 feet without any support. I'm sorry but the hanger is needed.
What's worse is it complicates the matter for me, I took the hanger off my stock cat and added it to the RP cat. This worked out OK until my RP failed. So, now if I want to go back to my stock cat, I need to weld the hanger back on as well.
Maybe for Joe Schmoe this all minor inconviences but for me, I'm too old for this ****.

ya, I'm planning on buying a HFC soon.. Still stuck between the RP and the rx8store.net one...
50 bucks difference? Same pipe diameter, neither have hangers... I don't see a difference between one or the other...

Kind of like the AEM CAI and the MS CAI.
Some folks want the MS (warranty) and some folks want to save $50 bucks.
You'll be fine either way.
For those concerned about the sound level from the stock cat with resonator to a high flow cat without a resonator the sound will be considerably louder.
I have the Greddy SP2 and when I had the SR cat on (which clogged, but could have been due to an extreme flooding incident) the sound level was extremely loud almost midpipe no resonator loud.
