Alfas (plural) that are discussed as coming to the US in 2009.
They are talking about the 159 (they haven't said which bodies or if that includes the estate, but they are saying that the chassis will be lengthened significantly for the US market in the 2009 redesign), the Brera, and the Spider have all been rumored to be coming in 2009. The Brera is a lower cost version of the Maserati GS coupe, which means that it is already federalised. However, you'll see under 2007 on that chart the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. Fiat Gruppo has announced that fully half of the production of that $200,000 carbon fiber super car will be coming to the US. Now, I know that most of us won't be running down to our local Ferrari dealer to secure one, but it will be the first car sold in the US with an Alfa badge since 1994. For those of us who like the cars, that is a big step. Then again, the Alfa Romeo Owners Club isn't holding its breath waiting for the US importation of any of these vehicles. Alfa has announced before that it will return to the US, and nothing happens.
Also, with the financial condition of FIAT, as well as the automotive naivete of its CEO Marcchione, it is hard to tell what they are going to do. I do love Marcchione ever since he stuck GM with that 6 billion dollar Put option, but that's neither here nor there. What Marcchione has been up to with licensing FIAT engineering and pushing out models, it is fully on one hand or the other whether he destroys FIAT by 2009 or makes if profitable again. I am betting on the latter, and I am planning on going to my local Maserati dealer, who is announced to be handling the importation of Alfas, and put my money down on a 159 Wagon if I can get hold of one.
Cool chart. It's always good to talk Alfas!
