It was only $700 and rims and tires would have been that much.

Insurance and gas savings should pay for it over the winter. Not to mention that now I can park close to mall entrances again. No more worrying about my baby until spring. I now have a 1.0 Litre (actually similar to the 8!) but the 55 HP is not similar. The torque is about the same.

Driving a Geo Metro is so horrible. It makes the 8 feel like an F430. I did get a standard so I have something to do. Hope it doesn't break down.

 

LoL...hope that $700 is as reliable as the 8 woulda been...cause a $700 car or $700 tire/rim decision seems like it shoulda been pretty obvious.

back in dec of 1999 i rented a geo metro with 4 friends and drove from san diego to vegas and back, i had it floored and couldn't break 65 miles per hour hahaha

 

Or a $700 tire/rim decision could equal much more with the 8 around a pole, or in a ditch. I mutch rather drive a beater than my 8 in the snow.

The 8 drives just fine in the snow IF you have snow tires.

 

It never snows here so I don't have to worry about the climate.. It's basically always the same temp.. Hm..

 

I'm parking my 8 for the winter this weekend. I'll be driving my 94 Geo Prism with 180k miles on it. God it sucks! It's like losing Pamela Anderson for four months and spending the winter sleeping with a 75 yr. old crack ***** with a wooden leg, bad breath and a colostomy bag!

 

I just wshed, waxed, covered, and garaged my 8 yesterday. I will be driving my '89 Toyota 4X4 that I have had for about 100 years. It does have all new mechanicals though, so I actually don't mind driving it. Just not worth the chance of wrecking it. We get ALOT of snow here.

I am going to be parking the 8 for the winter just as soon as I get the recall done. I have a 96 Ranger that I daily drive. My 8 has only seen rain once and never snow in over 3 years. Good choice on the beater...

 

this will be my first time driving the rx8 in the snow- I bought it this past spring. It came with blizzaks that I'll be swapping on next week. Can anyone tell me what to expect -as I will be commuting 1 hr each way to work in snowy massachusetts???

Well no matter what kind of Blizzaks you've got, expect noticeably mushier handling.

I wish I could give you more input on how they behave in the snow, but naturally it didn't snow after I put my snows on last winter. Only drove 350mi or so on 'em before it was time to switch back to the summer rubber.

 

never said handling would be superior in the 8...however, lets hope that metro wrapped around a pole was a slow accident, else you might not be around to drive the 8 again. Those smaller cars never were exactly on the top tier of the safety ratings.

Heck, i drive a beater in the snow myself, but only because I had it before i bought the 8. Just my own opinion that buying a whole automobile for the price of some tires doesn't seem like all that sound of an investment...especially when yull find it wont start in the -10 December weather.

Many people complain about the handling of snow tires, I honestly have no problem with them. They are just very soft, they can be overheated easily.

 

MY 8 was stored last fri.... I miss my baby OH well back to my 95 corolla with 300 000 kms on it, i prefer to store as the amount of salt they throw on the roads will corrode the undercarriage

 

^^ My sympathies. I'm glad we don't get too much snow here... especially since DC area drivers are terrible in the snow!

 

I'm parking my 8 over Thanksgiving in the garage and bringing the Expedition out to play in the snow for this winter at PSU.

 

I'll be parking the 8 soon (probably within the next 3 weeks or so). I'll probably take her out sometime in March.

I am going to put my 8 up for the winter. Is there anything I should be doing before the snow starts flying? Take the neg off the battery? anything with the gas? I've never had to put a car up for the winter before.

 

I have a set of snow tires for my 8 and its hilarious all the stuck AWD SUV's you drive past with their all-seasons. Nothing beats a good set of snow tires. AWD is useless if the tires themselves have no grip.
