Bidding on Amount over MSRP? What the heck? Geesh

What is WRONG with people?

here's an auction for a GT500 - but NOT for the car, for the AMOUNT OVER MSRP you are willing to pay for the car.

The problem is two-fold - 1st, the people who would actually PAY that much over MSRP; which leads to the 2nd; Dealers adding-on to prices simply because they can.

Reeks of lameness.

Holy crap. For $60k, I can think of TONS of cars I'd rather have than a tuned up Mustang.

Hell, that's edging up on Z06 territory.

It's even a used car!

I have seen dealerships list a "market adjustment" mark-up on a secondary dealer-installed window sticker. The one where they list the $150 pin stripe and the $500 polyglycoat.

Never on a car I bought, of course. But just as dealers discount cars in order to sell cars that are not moving, they will pump up the price on hot models.

Note that they don't have any bids yet. $15,000 is the starting bid requested.

"It only has 140 miles on it. The owner wanted to take his wife for an easy ride. This vehicle was driven very conservatively and not driven hard. "

Believe it or not, this isn't all that uncommon. A good friend of mine is a Finance Director for Ford and one of the dealerships that he oversees got to auction off 2 GT's just like this. He'd call me with daily updates on the bids...it was CRAZY what ppl would pay for these things.

If I were rich, I'd buy 'em and sell them at 25% LESS than MSRP - just so the average Joe could get one

The difference is the Ford GT is/was a very special car. The GT500 is getting mediocre reviews and with that price you could probably have a super low miles used Z06.

Did anyone see the barrett jackson auction on speed? They has a GT500 for auction and it got $500,000. The car was given to the auction by ford and all the money went to charity but still.
