Sorry if this is a repost, but have y'all seen this? It's a street legal 2200-hp car that can do 0-60 in one second and the 1/4 in 7.8.

 

i dont have audio here at work but i really dont see that as actually street legal. sure all the lights might work but c'mon. its got 15" wide slicks and a parachutte. Thats not even taking the interior or emmisions controls into consideration.



Hell of a fast car and a hell of a nice job building it. Not knocking that at all. That thing is just not a street car.

 

That car may be street legal in England but it wouldn't be in the US. A full rollcage is not street legal here.

A rollcage is more dangerous if you are not strapped in well and wearing a helmet. Think about where a roll cage runs. Your helmet may hit the cage but even padded, without a helmet you'll mess your head up. It is also significantly altering the vehicles crash test standards. It may be stiffer but a car is designed to crush in a certain way. That is now altered and not certified with that setup. If you aren't wearing a 5 point race harness and helmet, a cage is far more dangerous to you in a wreck than not having one.

I understood all that. I mainly just drove to the gas station. I had heard it was illegal to drive with numbers on the side of the car, but I have read my states vehical code and couldn't find that one also.

 

It is possible that some states may actually allow a full cage (not sure if any do) but most do not as far as I know. A street legal car can not have slicks and can not be run on race gas. This car is far from a street car.

 

That car was left hand drive. Was it really a Vauxhall or some sort of Chevy?

 

Numbers aren't illegal as far as I know. At least not here in Texas. In California everything is illegal as making a sticker caused more pollution from the sticker factory so who knows how other states view them? That's the problem with not having a countrywide standard.

 

our government has way better things to concentrate on than national sticker laws though.

FWIW, the states are the ones that decide what is or isn't street legal in the US. Not the Federal government. There is no provision in the Texas Transportation Code that makes driving in a vehicle equipped with a roll cage illegal. Look it up for yourself - Chapter 547 deals with vehicle equipment.

While I'll agree that driving around in a caged car with no helmet isn't a smart idea, there's a big difference between "bad idea" and illegal.
